AmyLou-- totally agree w/you but really, this year I AM going to process my extra roos. Unless I can find a home for them. Anybody want an extra Blue Orpington roo?

busy busy busy weekend here; already need to weed the garden!

My Blue Orps roos are starting to try to crow; it's so funny-- they sound like mechanical rusty toys!

Have a good rest of the weekend everybody!

And I hear ya about them weeds!! I'm already about sick of em!!

I went ahead and ended the hatch. Made sure they wern't pipped and candled them and they wasn't any movement or anything and they look like they quit a couple of days ago.

I have a question for ya'll!! Have you ever tried the wax when you have a crack in the egg your about to incubate??? I've read some stuff where is worked and decided to try it. One of my SS eggs had a crack in the small end. Then thank goodness he was looking my son spied a crack in the large end of one of the Golden Cuckoo Marans eggs!! I'm just wondering when I should really start to watch for oozing or smell if it doesn't work!!

It's my friends bird, and probably a mutt. Their eggs are long and dark orange to chocolate brown.

Definetly 8 tops if your going by square footage. 32 sf ... 4 sf per bird. Now, how is there run going to be and are you going to lock them in the coop??? I think that's a major factor. I find since I don't have an enclosed coop I can hold more chickens than you normally would, since they are never locked in and can go directly in the run. So it really depends.............

I am doing the run as pictured, 8x20. I would leave the door open unless there is bad weather or something. The actual sq. footage would be 36 (counting the boxes) and the run would be 160. I see different numbers different places. One spot, it said 2 sq ft. per bird if they have run access at all times. Sigh. I think 12 would be my max anyway. We have 8 now.
