"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

I'm about 40 minutes from Broussard. Not too far. I will check with Homeschool Cottage. Not sure how far it is from me but it's worth a try. Thanks for letting me know.

I know that I can't take a vacation any time soon because of all of the hatches. I probably won't be able to take vacation until the end of the hear. All of the little ones will be grown and I won't have to worry as much. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that a miracle will happen and I find the right person. I must say that I did talk to someone on last year that is a "dog/cat sitter" and said that she could do it but her price was TOO TOO TOO high. She was wanting $100.00 EVERY DAY!!! I think that's too much. What do you all think? Is $100.00 a day too much to charge for "Farm sitting"?

I found a home for the horse. A friend of mine who has horses and loves horses picked it up last week. The horse now has good home.

What about Barnyard Red? That is the color that I'm going with. I printed out that coupon but have not had a chance to use it. I don't think I will have time to go today.

Good luck on the colors.

Does anybody in South Louisiana (would be willing to drive within 2 hours of Morgan City) have any baby chicks they would be willing to sell me? The only breeds I can find at feed stores are Barred rock, americana, and Rhode Island Red....oh yeah..and in Lafayette, they had "ummmmm meat birds and egg layers". Yeah, thanks..rofl I'm looking for a good mixture of birds I think...around 8. I need friendly breeds (I know they will be handled a TON by my 7 year old and I), and good layers.

Thanks
Stephenie

Battening the hatches here for that line of t-storms heading our direction.

Congrats to all on the new babies! I'm done hatching for a while, need to get the ones I have grown up & merged first.

I laughed so hard at my peas yesterday; I took some bread out to them & when I started walking back to the house they all started calling to me, so I stood there & we "talked" back & forth to each other. It's the first time I heard one of the boys - D'art, the Buford Bronze - make an attempt at the "ca-row" - without thinking I told him, "Listen at you! you sound just like the real ones at the zoo"! & then I thought what a dumb statement that was.... after all, he IS a "real one" lol!

Red just doesn't feel.... Southern to me. Lol.

I found a wonderful blue that would be so nice with white trim. But dh says red red red red!!!

I found some Buff Orphingtons in Raceland at the feed store. Do you think this would be a good mix of hens:
Buff Orphington, Barred Rock, RIR, Americana. I want a colorful, friendly, egg laying bunch. The only one I'm not sure about is the RIR. I have read that they aren't the friendliest breed.

Thanks for all of your help!!
Step henie

So what color will it be?

Amylou, we built a chicken coop for my son for Christmas and painted in red with white trim. It looked pretty sharp! I loved it!

On my geese, the two eggs that I had on lockdown never pipped the egg. They were alive for several days and rocked & shook the egg but that was it.

:hit:hit I have two eggs that my gray goose is setting on that should hatch this week. We'll see. I had three eggs in the incubator that I just threw out because they weren't fertile. I have three more that I just put in the incubator. My little saddleback gosling is doing great. I moved her outside this weekend. She was just too nasty to keep in the house any longer. Once they discover water it's hard to keep them indoors. I really need a small tractor to put her in. Actually, I have a tractor that I built specifically for my goslings but since last spring I've used it for my young chickens. First my Coronations, now I have my BLRW in it and have no place else for them. Darn, Instead of giving my son that chicken coop for Christmas, I should have kept that chicken coop and given him money instead.
