I like the leg bands, although, I don't understand what the colors mean.

Well I don't have near the chickens you have, but the colors will be used for me to name them... The Red leg band on the barred holland is Holly... And so on... Just for sight identification...

Oh, That makes perfect sense. I don't name my chickens -- only my geese.

I would definitely add a fan to the LG. Now that mine are "re-engineered" they work much better. What I notice the most is how quickly the little chicks fluff up after hatching.

Jim added a fan to my old hovnabator & I thought it helped the process along, too.

Well Eagle (my bad roo) is staying for now -- everybody ( except me) adores this rooster & I encountered much protest over his intended demise. And, he IS a 100% wheaton Ameracauna & hatched from a true blue egg, so I do hope he throws his good genes into his offspring.

I will be hatching some more Ameracaunas, EEs & Olive-eggers. There won't be any brown egg layers in this batch-- all will lay colors ranging from true blue to green to deep olive green. So -- if anyone's interested in chicks when they hatch, do let me know!

Yes I want a "replacement" roo to hatch but no problem there -- last summer I managed to hatch 8 roos out of 9 eggs.

Hope all is well with everyone. Haven't been on either site in a bit. You know the sign you HAVE to go back to work when you spend every waking hour cleaning your house from top to bottom, and your so tired of cleaning but have nothing else better to do. Plus I had to ship my laptop off again.

Like Joe said if anyone has any issues with LaChickens just send me a PM. Check my email on my phone all the time.

I became a great aunt again yesterday. Get to go see her this morning. Can't wait.

I've had 11 out of 16 eggs hatch so far. One didn't make it yesterday. All the Speckled Sussex (5) hatched and (6) Golden Cuckoo Marans. The other 5 are GCM. I just have one issue. Their all black from what I can tell so I'm thinking she might have sent me the wrong marans eggs. I'm going to wait till their completly dry but can't see them changing colors.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Congrats on those chicks Paisaneaux!! It is so addictive! DH and I decided we were going to hatch "just once" as a homeschool project for DD,.. it's now a family preoccupation

ya know,.. a BYC member sent us some eggs from New York for DD's exhibition Aussies that should have arrived 3 days ago,. they were "missent" according to Track and confirm,. to Pearl River,. so I thought,. OK,. they will be here tomorrow,. it's just 20 miles away,..
but the PO sent them to Covington,.
then across the Lake to New Orleans,..
then finally back to Lacombe,..,..talk about the scenic route! this is the second shipment from this Breeder,. that last package was so badly scrambled that the air cells looked like a lot of tiny bubbles and only 2 out of 12 were intact enough to develop,.. I haven't candled yet,. letting them rest now,..

Have any of ya'll had so much trouble with the PO??
Just last month they lost a batch of hatching eggs we were getting from Georgia,..

I am so sorry about your eggs! and to answer your question, I am getting more & more leery of the PO, esp. now they are saying they are going to close our main post office here & consolidate everything in Shreveport. I've had a couple of incidents similar to yours - air cells so scrambled nothing developed. Yesterday got a package with some barley malt yeast in it (attempting to recreate New York style bagels) and it had "Fragile" stamped on it with a big gaping hole right in the middle of the word. Accident or Intentional?

Good to see you posting LaMike!

wow,.. ya see that make me feel those folks that wont write "fragile" or "eggs" on their package may be right,. I hate to think that people are that intentionally mean but I know they're out there,.. seems like they are all getting jobs at the P.O. ,..
I also recently learned that not everyone carrying mail is an actual P.O. employee,.. the USPS hires outside people to carry stuff,.. My Mom used to work for a well known transport company here in LA,. and she was telling us that she and others hauled bags of US mail all the time,..

What is the alternative,.. who else will carry eggs?

Did ya get to make the bagels?? That sounds really good..

Ya know that Strawberry sauce I was making ,. I got 2 flats and out of those 2 we only had 4 bad berries! Now I just need to make some homemade vanilla ice cream,..
wink.png

We're picking Mayhaw's and Huckleberries morning and evening now,.. I'm not getting as many Huckleberries as I would like to though,,. seems DD and DH are using the save one -eat one- harvesting method!!
lol.png

What are ya'll picking?

edited for spelling
