It's something how animals can leave lasting memories with us.

As a child, we had a puppy, a cat, and a young raccoon (our pet) that hung out together. They all slept in a dog house together. Every morning, the raccoon would open the screen door of our porch by putting his paw under it and pulling it forward to let the cat and the puppy in. Then the three of them would come onto the porch and scratch on the door to come in to eat. That's been over 40 years ago but I remember it like it was yesterday. They were quite special! I think it's a blessing to have memories like these. I love animals!

Hi again, 26 chicks hatched April 17 - they made such a mess, changed the water 3 times today - poop all over the place...well tonight I looked in on them and a mess again...Put them outside in the brooder prepared for them...have a large brooder 3/4 of it house 18 one month old chicks --the remaining 1/4 is where the new chicks are under a heat lamp, the two sections are divided with wire so the heat lamp serves for both ... just checked on them and all were settled down and sleeping... tarp over the brooder at night (have since the 18 were hatched) works well, no wind...This has been such a great experience will do it same way next time (that will not be for a while) my broody hen now lives in a cage I made for her IN THE COOP area(out of the nesting area of the hen house) she can see everything that goes on and they can see her, hope this is the way to make an easy entrance back into the flock? right? little Fizzle will have it harder, she and 8 chicks are in seperate cage OUT where the flock free range (I hope seeing her every day will allow HER and her chicks back in?) Am new to owning chickens, all this I have read from your suggestions -thanks for all the help.......will this work?....G

That sounds like a plan to me! This weekend I am setting up my "pen within a pen" in my main run to move the Blue Orps into for a couple of weeks, so they can get to know the main flock. Then I'll sneak them into the coop one night. That always seems to work well for me.

Well all you enablers, my bator is humming along even though I am having to hand turn a batch of Ameracaunas (my auto-turner went out on me). I also have 2 white eggs in there from Carmen, my Black Andalusian crossed on my Ameracauna roo Eagle & 4 eggs from my EE Chippy - who lays huge green eggs. So I'll have all shades of blue to green layers -- looking forward to this hatch.

The UPS man told me the neatest thing yesterday when he came by the office. He has chickens too, & said one disappeared a couple weeks ago -- then showed back up with 22 chicks following her! He had her isolated from the rest when that big storm & cold front came through last week. He went to move her in case the shed flooded, & also he was afraid it would be too cold for the chicks without a lamp, so he went inside and she was sitting there all fluffed up & he only saw 3-4 chicks with her.

He said he couldn't imagine what had happened to the rest of them! He picked her up -- nothing underneath & was holding her when 2 chicks suddenly fell out of her -- he was so surprised -- he gave her a little shake & said she "started raining chicks" -- she had them all tucked up in her feathers! How sweet is that? He said they were just as warm & soft as could be.

If anybody gets a chance please say a little prayer for a special friend of mine - she found out yesterday that she is literally fighting for her life - every woman's nightmare -- she has a rough time ahead but is a strong person & I know can beat this. Thank you. Count your blessings and hug your friends and family.

If you ever get the chance to get geese, you really should. They are really comical. I can sit and watch them all day and make up a story in my mind as far as what they are saying and what they are doing and why they are doing it.

Sounds like you have a busy weekend. Cute story about the UPS man and his chicks. Saying prayers for your friend and that everything turns out ok.

I surely count my blessings, hug family and friends and let them know that I love them. I don't sweat the small stuff and don't get upset or let people get to me. Life is too short. I personally know some people who gripe and complain about EVERY little thing. I just don't understand why. There are a lot of people who are going through things that we can never imagine but yet some people chose to complain and nag about simple things. Enjoy life and treat others with love and respect. I always try to go out of my way to do something special for others every chance I get.

Ours was a coon baby. We had him for about a year then he disappeared. We heard gunshots one morning and he never came back home.

I will most certainly take your friend to my Lord and Saviour,. He knows all about her and tells us to bring our sorrows to Him,..
These trials certainly do put things in perspective.
