Thanks for all the prayers and well wishes!

My son had surgery in the wee hours Saturday morning. Dr. put a permanent pin in his leg. He was able to go home Sunday afternoon. He is able to get around with a walker. He cannot put any pressure on his leg for three weeks, after three weeks the Dr. wants him to start putting pressure on his leg. The Dr. said that in about four weeks he should be able to operate his backhoe and slowly start doing work activities. He should be fully recovered in three months.

With regards to the guy that was killed -- rumor from someone that knows the family well told us that the guy suffered a massive heart attack and was believed to be dead before the wreck. It may explain why the car slowly drove into my son's path, and also why the guy never looked around before crossing the intersection. Also, if he was possibly already dead prior to the collision it would sure be less emotional stress for my son. It doesn't change anything for that family though. I just pray for peace for them.
 
Gramby we are praying for all involved......Pure Isa Brown Hen - will her eggs be the same qualities as the hen? what difference? I heard they cannot be bred pure only at hatchery...true or not? what are the good qualities of the 2nd generation (I don't even know how to ask the question) what do you know about Isa Browns? would you get eggs from other than a hatchery..

That sure could've happened. It happened to our neighbor up the road from us a few years ago, he had a massive heart attack & died at the wheel-- he didn't hit anybody, his truck drifted off the road into the bayou.

Glad your son is home & hope he had an uneventful recovery.

Not so good news here; they are closing the post office distribution center here, consolidating everything in Shreveport. Of course they are saying that won't affect service or speed of delivery.

However - my days of ordering shipped chicks or eggs are fast coming to a screeching halt. I'm not taking the risk. It's been risky enough as it was these past couple of years. The change is supposed to be finalized by October, but I'm sure there are about 36 disgruntled postal employees out there right now who don't care what it says on the side of the box...
 
It was in today's paper. There have been rumours for a couple months now & even a town meeting where they invited the post master general to come & hear our side of it -- I mean really, we're the center of the state for Pete's sakes! doesn't it make sense to consolidate things in the middle of the state instead of in the north end? but noooo, we lost that argument.

Like they said in the article today, at some point Cenla is going to have to stop taking the hits for the poor economy...

edited to add, we'll still have mail delivery but I know our rural carrier told me they count every piece of mail she delivers & picks up, & she's on the "danger" list -- they are talking about consolidating some of the rural routes. I would just hate for her to lose her job; she's really good at it & needs it, too, & is at that age where it'll be hard to find another one like it but too young to even think about retirement for another 15-20 years or so.
