Hot water heather thermostat. Lowe's about $10 or $12..
simple to wire.

Okies got that but temp is ranging from 84 to 110 lol was wandering how long it will take to be more stable

Hmm do you have it set up outside like in a shop or in more of a climate control enviroment like your house. Also what are you using for heat source, heating element or heat lamp?

That is a great idea. Will they be confined to that area all day or will they be able to free range outside of the pens? I agree that you can make the runs wider and longer. I honestly think that you all could do this in less than 6 months. As far as the place to buy building things, I think you are talking about Habitat for Humanity. Is that it? You can buy luumber, doors, paint, nails, wire, etc.

I think that is a great example to copy. I wouldn't go with the tin in the front. I would just use the tin for the roof. This will be a great project for you. Your chickens will be so happy when they get a new home.

Sorry to hear that you were not feeling well. Are you ok today? When I logged on and saw that there were about 3 pages since the last time I logged on (yesterday), I was speechless. So much to catch up on.

Good Morning All! Hope everyone is enjoying this heat, NOT! I am sooo not use to this anymore. I remember that as a kid living here it didn't bother me, but boy am I spoiled to AC now. Anyway....

Am going tomorrow to get the material to build a brooder for babies. Should I keep them inside or outside. I know it says to keep the temp steady for the first few weeks and decrease by 5 degrees weekly. I was thinking that if I needed to watch the temp closely that I would need to keep them inside? any suggestions?

Hey Mike, just in case I'm not ready by Monday, where are you located? I might would be willing to drive to you if it's not too extremely far.

Thanks for asking Julie. I am much better. I'm not sure what was going on that day. BAD stomach cramps. But when I got up yesterday morning I felt fine. Who knows.

It was for the most part pleasant outside yesterday morning (not too hot and overcast), so I finished clearing the spot for my coop. But by noon the sun had come out and I was back inside.

I started free-ranging my main flock when I'm home to keep an eye on them. They love it. I let them out all day on the weekends & during the week when I get home from work at 4:00 until it gets dark. They have been very good about self-policing themselves; let themselves back into the coop -- in fact, they run in & out of the coop too! I keep the gate open & I've been putting extra treats in the coop just to "remind" them that their fenced in space is also a nice place. They go in to lay their eggs & then back outside again to ramble around, or some of them just hang out in the coop/run area sometimes.

They like to hang out in my muscadine vines & under the fig trees, & sure enough, with the breeze blowing in the shade there, it is bearable & almost pleasant (compared to direct sunlight)! They aren't panting when they are there -- they've dug holes & wallow in them. Also, they are not eating as much feed - always a bonus!

So I will continue to free range them when I'm there to watch out for stray dogs, coyotes, etc. Incidentally, Eagle takes very good care of his flock - he is always on the lookout & calls out if he sees something he thinks is a threat. I can hear him even if I'm inside the house & run outside to see what's the matter.

I just wish I could let my peacocks out, but I'm afraid to, I sure don't want to risk losing them.

Shdyldy28 hope you are feeling better!
