Ok. Great!!!! So, now it's just to wait. So they have to go to your place to get the dead birds?

Either they are coming here or they are going to set up some people to help me get the bird there. I might have to bring it so far and then someone else will continue the trip.

Ok. I hope that they are able to get your birds their with no problem. Then it will be another waiting game for the results but at least they have the birds to test.

Again, I'm so sorry that you are having to deal with this.

In the meantime, have you thought about cleaning and disinfecting your coops as a precaution. I"m not sure how your coops are set up, so I don't know how much cleaning you would have to do. I would also consider cleaning, soaking and disinfecting all waterers and feeders, take a look at changing bedding, etc. Also take precaution with you and your family's shoes. You may want to clean your "chicken yard shoes" before bringing anymore dirt/droppings into the chicken yard.

At the same time, the cleaning may or may not matter being as though you still have sick birds. If you clean and disinfect, whatever is there will still be there even after the cleaning.

My head is hurting just thinking about what you are going through. I'm so sorry.

Please keep us posted as often as possible.

I wish that I could have been a vet but dealing with pets/animals dieing would have killed me. I cry when animals are hurt or when they die. So, if a patient brought in their dog and I couldn't fix or heal it and it died, then I would be an emotional wreck. I would think that it was my fault and would probably go into a deep depression over it. Can you see yourself bringing your pet to a vet that was depressed all the time. I would go out of business. So, I knew that I wasn't able to handle being a vet.

I cry over animals too easy.

You know, it took me almost 50 years to figure out the same exact thing. I did everything possible to get into vet school, but back then they didn't have LSU, so I had to apply at Texas A&M & Oklahoma & didn't make the cut - they only took about 2 out of state students & hated women trying to be vets back then. I finally did come to grips with the fact I would've been a lousy vet -- probably would've ended up in Angola for attacking irresponsible pet owners or something like that, never mind the depression factor too!

Alas I sure hope you get results - wish I lived closer, I'd come bring the birds in for you - that is so ridiculous, here we can bring them just down the road to the LSU Ag center diagnostic lab & they test immediately - you have results within 24 hours tops - I've brought several dead blue jays & skunks to test for West Nile & rabies.

I feel so bad for you. Julie has a good idea, if you could disinfect maybe that would help, at least you'd feel like you're doing something.
I wish you'd get an answer soon..

Hmm, the LSU Ag Center has a Covington annex. I wonder if they test there. I'm going to try them. Thanks for the thought!
