"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Amazed how, in a bad way or cool way?

Well, it wasn't bad. It was kinda cool. I was impressed by a few of the farms that have hens that lay eggs, actually allow their hens to free range and the environment really is not bad. You hear a lot of horror stories about how some of these farms are set up, so this gives the viewer a chance to see that all egg farms are NOT as bad as most people may think. I was a little disturbed with the de-beaking after the pullets were hatched but most of the farms say that it is necessary. While on the other hand, another farmer does NOT de-beak his hens and they all seem to get along. Sure a little fight or 2 every now and then but that's about all.

I was shocked to see that some of the eggs are sold for as much as $8.00 a dozen.

I wish that I could sell my eggs for $8.00 a dozen but that would be a dream.

I would love to get their chicken feed recipe.

So, it was kinda cool.

Not me I've never used rice chaff before, use to use hay now I use pine shavings.

Ready for 1:00 to roll around so I get off work and go to Lowe's get some material and get to building. Got to put up a devider and a gate on a pen and cover it with some type of wire or netting for a grow out pen. My pen is 4' high I was gonna put up some poles (pcv) to make the netting higher. But just not in the mood to build nothing estravagant. I will probably just cover it level. Build a shelter with a perch and a feed and water system close to the gate so I dont have to go in there often. Plus when I build my shop all my stuff will get moved behind the new shop, Thats why I have been building pens that are easy to move later on and not permanent. I may post some pics later if I finish that and finish cutting grass, if weather permits, its looking pooky outside.

Okay, I think the eye thing just may be the result of not being able to groom herself properly. I have been adding vitamins to her water. I've been feeding her green beans by hand since she cant reach out her neck to eat. I'm thinking vitamin deficiency. Her neck is weird and her wings are droopy. Its just a coincidence that she started acting like this the day after her sibling was taken. Does anyone know a decent vet in the Covington/Mandeville area that deals with birds? I dont exactly have a bunch of money to pay for the vet and a couple of hours travel in gas, so the closer the better.

Work said he had to get rid of them? WTH kinda work does he do that it would be any of their business? WTH?????

We work for the Sheriff's Office!!

OH HELL NO!!!! They'd be a fight there. If he is within code, and followed all rules, there is nothing they can do.Don't get me started on that!!! The crackhead down from me thought he was gonna make me get rid of my animals....didn't work. For one I'm zoned agricultural, and two(being LEO you'd know) the laws passed concerning drug dealers and issues within a specific distance of a public playground and school. The school is less than 1,000 feet from his front yard (of which he's been busted several times) and the park is about another 500 feet from the school. He has 3 dui's and still drives with a beer in his hand, his dealer comes through around the same time everday,he son has skipped town(also convicted with federal bonds). Long story,he has rented out his house and is staying down the road with his dealer....lol...

I may have to call someone to come and help me catch him.

Would you like Ithaca, browning or weatherby or if you're not a very good aim maybe Weatherby or Mossberg?lol...

She looks like she doesn't feel very well. I'd be inclined to think that it's more than just her eye bothering her. Her posture suggests to me that she's feeling ill. I hope she gets to feeling better soon.

Twiley, what could she do in this case? Can she give Noal some meds or something? What would perk her up again?

If you have some space to get her out of the heat for a little while I'd try that. Also, give her some electrolites (I'd try some pedialite.) Make sure that she's eating. My geese LOVE fresh lettuce. Some also LOVE watermelon. I'd try either or something else as long as it's something that has lots of water content to make sure that the goose doesn't dehydrate. After making sure that she's comfortable, eating and drinking, I'd look for other symptoms. I'd bet there are other things going on.

I brought her inside to get her out of the rain. I've been feeding her TONS of green beans since they're her favorite. The biggest thing seems to be her neck. I'm thinking maybe a vitamin deficiency or injury. I have no idea how to tell though. I've been hand feeding her since she cant move her neck properly. I think her eye is just irritated because she cant groom herself. I've been washing it out with eye drops. I trying to find a vet that knows anything about geese, but it'll probably be Monday before anyone can see her.

Rebel? Oh yes! I'm VERY stubborn. It's a good thing that I don't own a donkey because I don't know which one of us would win the battles -- because I'm not giving up.

When I started 1st grade I was not quite ready because I was truly a "country girl" and didn't know anyone at school. So, my solution was that I just wasn't going to participate in class AT ALL. When my teacher tried to persuade me to do things, I just refused and did nothing. It didn't matter if she was nice or mean in her attempts to get me to cooperate. I had already made up my mind to do NOTHING. My mom told me that it took the teacher six weeks to get me to pick up my pencil. I passed 1st grade with good grades once I decided to learn. Today, I'm a teacher -- GO FIGURE! Life is sometimes just cruel!!

Now, I've got to deal with those kids that just DON'T WANT TO!

Another strong stand I made as an adult was going to college. My ex-husband tried VERY hard to make me quit college but I felt very strongly about getting my education. Through the years, we had numerous battles about me attending college. The more he tried to get me to quit the harder I studied. He pushed harder and harder for me to quit. I studied harder and harder to succeed. In the end, we divorced and I graduated from college. I don't regret any of my decisions. I just figure that if we couldn't work toward a goal that I felt was very important then I didn't need him. His actions gave me the energy I needed to succeed even though he didn't understand that he was really just pushing me away. During college, I worked a full time job, had two teenage children, attended night classes four nights a week, and made honor roll each semester. I'm not someone that you'd like to be in a battle with because I don't give up very easily especially if I'm told that I can't do something. If I'm given a challenge the fight is on!

I don't have much experience with sick geese. They don't get sick very often. I've lost one that appeared to be eggbound. Another one of my geese got sick and didn't walk for several days. He recovered but was left with some neurological damage. Now, his head shakes, he lifts his feet very high to walk, and if he tries to run he trips and falls over his feet. Otherwise, he's healthy.

I'm going to ask him to join us for Thanksgiving dinner this year.
