"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Boy did I have fun when I got home from work yesterday. I picked up some 7 dust from the feed store and de-loused my 22 adult burds and sprinkle a little bit in the litter of the 8 chicks. Cleaned out nesting boxes refilled with pine shaving and sprinkled 7 dust in there two. Filled there water bowls with de-wormer (Wazine-17). Pooooh I was tired after all that.

Check out these two spanish games I got Thursday!
The first two picks or of a grey stag he is not quit a year yet. The guy I got him from said he has some red blood in him two, he obviously does, he looks cool. I had took them home and put them on tie cord on top of my freezer in the shop and gave them a good looking over and rubbed there heads down with Vet-rx and there legs and under there wings.

I have that same decision to make with some Silver Sussex roosters. I'm looking at the standards for color and type but I have to research a little more on the contrast of colors. Some of my roosters are more black with silver in color and others show more white. I don't know which is more desireable more black or more white. I'm going to try to find some Sussex people and get some advise before butchering.

Hello all! I am about to ship birds from Louisiana to Maryland. I was curious to see if anyone else from Louisiana has done this before. Are there any specific regulations for Louisiana? Can I just ship the silkies to Maryland with no problem? Does the PO office ask for anything? Any needed licenses? Thanks y'all!

Technically, you need to be NPIP certified to be legal. You'll also need a health certificate from a vet certifying that the animal is healthy. Check the requirements for the state of Maryland for incoming birds to the state to see if they require you to also be avian influenza certified. In addition, it's awefully hot to ship birds right now. If it were me, I'd wait until the temperatures cool off a bit before shipping birds -- especially adult birds. You can find lots of information about the requirements for NPIP certification on our Louisiana chicken forum. http://www.louisianachickens.com/index.php/forum/index Good Luck with your shipment.

HEY! we got to see the International Space Station fly over us this evening!! It was SO COOL!! it was bigger & slower than I thought it would be!!

It's supposed to pass over us here the next couple nights then a couple nights during the week. It's going in and out of Stennis here,so hopefully I'll get to see it too. I guess I'll know it when /if I see it? We have cargo carriers, jets, and copters over us ALL DAY LONG,so I probly wouldnt even notice unless I looked...lol...If I'm not mistaken (might be) the two Americans were on the last shuttle flight to space. They were here at Stennis yesterday for a meet n greet.

Joe 17.... You might want to call the local post office to inquire as to their process. Most times, you need NPIP certification, but not all states require or check. The birds are 'supposed'to be checked beforehand for pullorum and typhoid. Also whatever the receiving state would require... Shipping within the state is a state AG issue, but once it crosses state lines it becomes USDA issues.... If your P.O. only states the approved boxes, you can try it.

Funky weather here today. My load of sand is beginning to "fill" in the front yard...lol...

Thanks everyone! So just call my PO and they should tell me everything I need to ship the bird to Maryland or do I need to do research it myself? So once I get vet checked or npip tested, I print those papers and ship it with the birds? All of my flock came from npip tested breeders. Can I get away with just shipping the birds in a box? How do they know if they are tested or not? If the PO says they will ship them, am I good to go?

Edited to add, I have never shipped birds and I am very nervous. I won't ship them in this heat of course. I have no clue what I need to do!
