Ya, I've been to see the bonfires years ago. I've always liked the more unusual structures.
When I was a kid we used to do levee bonfires in St Charles parish too, but like a lot of neat things from back then, they eventually banned them there.

Seems like headaches had a lot of us grounded today. I think I'm feeling a little better. Took some tylenol but that didn't work. Then took Advil and that didn't work. I found some Naproxen samples that I received in the mail and I took that and that seemed to knock it out. I took 3 naps in an attempt to lose this headache. This is a first. Not sure what's going on. Maybe the heat, exhaustion and the mosquito repellant that I inhaled caused the headache. I won't be wearing that again.

How is it going with everyone else today?

Haven't done a whole lot here. Between hubby, son & I we got the house dusted and vaccumed. I've got all the laundry done, bed linens washed, etc. Got a meatloaf about to go in the oven and potatos peeled and ready to boil. Bad thing was I forgot my inlaws were grilling ribs so at least we'll have supper for the next couple of days!!

We haven't gotten any rain. Swore it was going to storm last night, it was thundering and lightening. It sprinkled for a couple of means!!

Well hello everyone! It has been a while since I have had time to get back on here! I don't know if I will be able to catch up

We have been VERY busy over here, but things should ease up a bit next year. We got a bit of a shower today, but I think we could use a whole week of rain right now. It is just too dang hot! I hope everyone has been well!

Hi all! Hope all the headaches have gone away. That's a heck of a way to spend your Sunday.

We had a very productive day. We were able to finally burn some tree limbs and construction debris, and cleared some junk off of the property from the previous landowner. Also, did a little mowing. All in all, we made some good progress today. Got a couple of showers this afternoon to cool us off but it wasn't enough to put out our fire.

The clearing that we did today is the beginning of my LONG overdue chicken pens. Does anyone know what direction the chicken pens should face? The pens will be open and I'm thinking of running the pens from East to West. The front and back of each pen would be facing North and South. Any thoughts? Julie, I like your idea about the sand in the pens and think that I will end up doing the same. I'll probably haul in some fill dirt to raise the pens and then put sand on top of that.

Well I got the headache to go away also. However mine dont go away that cheaply. My medicine for them is $32 a pill and she only prescribes 6 a month.

I did get a lil bit of stuff done.Got my younger button quail moved into a bigger brooder pen.I have 46 of them an 14 older ones. Also got sand into one and a half pens.Going to hopefully do some more tomorrow. Then let them settle a lil bit to see how much more they need.

Ya'll talking open pens...My new runs I put up are open on the sides. They run North to South. So my doors face East (for the most part)... What do ya'll do for the cold air in the winter? My large coop was open, but in the winter I hung tarps.Had them set where I coud roll them up and tie them.I dont have an enclosed part on the pens, just a roof.Their is nest boxes for the layers. Will the birds handle the weather? Or should I still cover the sides for cold weather?
