"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Gee, did I kill this thread or what?

My NY friend made it through OK, only thing they are waiting on now is high tide to come in (low tide is at 4:00 ET) may cause some additional flooding but overall, made it OK!!! She called my Mom & cried & cried, just worn out from all the worry. This from the person who works on the 44th floor of a building about 2 blocks from where the World Trade Center stood, who rides subways every day that I would get lost forever on!

I sent her the link to the YouTube video of Leon Everette singing "Hurricane" since she is now "blooded".

Naw, I don't think so!! I know I've been as busy as he77... We've done 5 acres of yard work (mow & weed eat), removed the fence from around my garden and made a HUGE burn pile with wood that's just been laying around here & there!! The heat has been brutal!! I made 3 waterers out of 5 gallon buckets and the nipples I bought off of eBay. They work great and all of them have learned how to use them. Didn't get my coop started like I wanted to but it was just way to hot for that!! I still have a month or so before I will have to have it!!

Hope you all had a great & productive weekend!!

I'm with Missi on that one.I think everyone has just been pretty busy. We've been helping our buddy out at the market and he's surprisingly been doing pretty good for the area we are in and the newness of the business. We've been doing alot of fishing also...Pretty much got me whupped...lol..Besides that,I've been working like crazy outside.Sold off all my big dog kennels.Had tthe last one go today.Still got a few wire cages, probly going up to the auctionhouse this week.FINALLY got my waterlines done and system all set up in the new runs.Got one 4x8 bantam pen I have to figure out where I want it,but we are ready to start pulling the tin off the old coop.Might get one of these scrappers to come by and take it down and just let them have it for scrap. These people out here are crazy!!! Remember the fiasco with the swimming pool?...
Well,I decided no pool no need for the ladder to be laying around,so I put it out for trash.Well this guy comes by(never seen this car on my road before ever,he must have smelled the scrap) and eyeballs this ladder. He drives down the road and comes back around eyeballing it,but continues to the end.Turns around get out his car (a very small car, fairly big fella) and is looking at the front door.Presumably to see if someone comes out? Well we are used to scrappers, and actually put it all to the far side of the trash pile.He keeps looking, thendecides t grab the ladder and shove it in the car(the little bitty car).Looking nervous as he77 the whole time.Like he was waiting for someone to come outside screaming or something. He looked like a nutcase trying to figure out how to get this big ladder into the (little bitty) car.He puts it in the front seat, then tries to get in to drive, but doesn't fit. Finally realizes it ain't gonna fit in one piece he bends it all up and junk and shoves it in the back.Jumps in his car and HAULS A$$!!!!Both of us were watching him out the window the whole time, and laughing soooo hard. He looked like he would have stroked if someone said boo!!!

Terrie...glad to hear your friend is safe and sound.

I'm very tired guys and have to sit in on a court hearing tomorrow,so I am headed to bed.... Night everyone!!!

Howdy All!!!

Haven't posted in a while, so I thought that I would catch everyone up.

Business has been VERY good the last couple of months, but that just means that I'm pooped every day.

I had some duck eggs from my rouens that I wanted to check so I popped them in my bator.. 5 of them.. At week 2 I had 1 quitter, and 4 cookin.. I should have waited about a week cause my little khaki campbell went broody and is sitting on about 13 eggs. She has been there for just shy of 2 weeks. I'm gonna candle one night and pull the duds. My ducks are still laying like crazy.

My Coronations are doing well and we should start getting eggs from them in the next 3-4 weeks. I hope to get them a seperate pen built for the spring incubation rush. I plan on getting a new portable building to house my incubators and chicks/ducks for sale next year. I don't need a very big one, just enough space for 5 incubators (one of them my home brew freezer incubator) and for 3 brooders. I more than likely will get a used one, so that I don't screw up the floor on a new one.

None of my seramas are laying except one, and she has fertility issues. I was going to send Grambys some of her eggs, but I started a few of her eggs, and nothing. So I waited a week and tried again. She's soo tiny and I think that my roos are missing. She is a little class A and they have issues. My good layer is STILL BROODY!!! 2 months now. I've taken her off the nest, forced her outside, and as soon as a door to the house opens, here she comes like a lightning bolt and zips into her cage and sits. I've trained my seramas now (yes trained) In the afternoon I go into the avery and say "wanna go outside.. and they all start making noise. I open their door and they make a bee line to the back door and I open it and they fly out. It's really funny. My Roo.. Truffles (yes the one that don't like my wife) will come and sit on my knee if I'm on the back porch.

I would like to get an update on the meet and greet, I've looked back several pages and didn't see any thing. If someone would be so kind to put a post on the LouisianaChickens.com site that would be really great.

Now I'm going to get on my soap box. LouisianaChickens.com. I started that page for folks in our state would have a local place to go and be sorta a gateway into raising poultry. The number of posts have dropped to mabey once a week. I know that BYC is very important, and I spend a lot of time here my self, but don't forget our little spot on the world wide web.

Ok Nuff Said. Like Dave Thomas' Wendy's commerical about the new spicey chicken sandwich said, "Build it, they will come"

Joe

Good morning everyone. What a weekend! I am drained. So much stuff to do on the weekend. This heat is a killer.

Twiley and Terri, you are right about giving to others. That is something I always saw my parents do as a child and it stuck with me. I guess it's true when they say that when you give you get back in return. I guess that's why I found more newborns on yesterday. The universe has repaid me for my little gifts that I gave out on yesterday.

I think my girls have a secret village somewhere because I have no idea where this girl was laying on eggs. She and the babies just showed up.

I wonder if they are going to the woods to lay and set.

Today, we are starting on a large feed stall. With the amout of feed that I purchase, I have to build another feed stall. Hopefully, it will be done by the end of the week.

Also, this week, I am finally getting more sand.

I wish that I knew someone with a dump truck so that I could get much more sand. The last time, they just dumped a load on our flatbed but I think it was too much sand. To have them deliver the sand is so much more than if you get it yourself.

Oh well.........

Have a great day everyone.

Good morning everybody -- I just got back from my morning trek & saw that darn coyote again! He was about 3 miles from here, sitting on the edge of a soybean field. When he saw me, he startled up & then took off at a quick trot, circling me around the edge of the field, then slipped out of sight. Maybe I ought to start carrying my gun instead of my walking cane...

OK lots to do today, two dogs to clip down & laundry to catch up.
I am going to start tearing down my "grow-out" pen & transfer those materials to enlarge my peas' living quarters & their run. lol sounds like everybody else is building more pens & more coops & runs & here I am downsizing! Have a good one!

Read you loud & clear Joe & I'm definitely guilty of not posting on the La site which you were so generous & kind-hearted to set up -- so I'll make it a point to check in there!

I was thinking, I have to go do some things for my old boss Wednesday & I will ask him, if he hasn't sold the lumberyard (which I doubt seriously will happen - it's already been for sale for well over a year now) by October, he will probably let me have the keys to the place & we can have our chicken meet there... the showroom has a restroom, & there's plenty of room in the warehouse for the birds, even if it rains, it's all under cover & fenced in. Plenty of parking area too. There's a pizza hut & mcdonald's across the street & the mall is just up the road. What do ya'll think about that? I can ask him & report back what he says if you think that would work. Also, it's all fenced in so if by chance birds get loose they won't go anywhere.

Good morning everyone, Wow I just relized I havent got on since Friday. I have been busy. I expected to have more than that to catch up on reading. Saturday I had to work till 1:00 then I went home and washed my truck. Sunday I went picked up another Spanish cock (Jerezano bloodline). Also processed 4 chickens to.

I think Black-breasted red roosters (in most any breed) is one of the "most" prettiest color patterns there is in the wide world of chickens.

I will be getting a young BBR (Kelso) cock here soon, will post pics asap!

Here's one of my Golden-duckwing (half Kelso x grey) cock. ol' one-eyed Willy

, yeah he lost one eye in a battle (gangfight) for top dog but was way out numbered, other-wise none would have stood a chance one on one with him as they can't out last his stamina or his multiple thrashings all at once. Him's baadd@$$ him.
