Hi all! Much too much to catch up on -- I'd have to go back 50 pages to answer all the posts that I'm behind on.

Harry, I'm glad to see that you are back home and feeling better. Take care of yourself.

Lots of interesting posts concerning the protection of your animals. Thanks for sharing! I will also be bookmarking that information.

Terri, I have hope for your BIG BAD A** rooster. Yesterday he was struting his stuff and jumping onto the kennel fencing trying to attack me through the fence while I was feeding and watering my geese. So, I took a deep breath and walked to the gate of his kennel. Just as I expected, he also came to the gate to meet me. I decided that it was high time for us to have our "come to Jesus" meeting. I opened the gate and gave him one swift kick. Just as he was "regrouping" I gave him another good swift kick just to let him know that the first one was not an accident, and that I was not playing. Later that evening, I went back into the pen and he politely walked to the back of the pen to give me some space. Today, I went in to collect eggs and he was very gentleman-like. He did crow at me a few times but he never tried to jump me. I hope that I nipped his aggressive behavior in the bud. I don't think that he liked my game of "football" very much.

I agree with all of you in not wanting to harm animals. However, sometimes it is necessary to correct aggressiveness by whatever means it takes. I would sure hate to have to butcher this beautiful rooster because he is too mean to keep around.

Preach on brother Mike, I'm with ya too on the not condoning cruelty either but that's exactly right about being able to protect you and yours from the aggressions of dogs or any critter that is out to kill or has/been killing you're livestock ie. investment of hard work and dollars. This is the reason for leash laws at hand, the animals cannot run loose anywhere but boy o'boy I'd like to see the size of an institution it'd take to house all the rogue dogs and such running loose in La. much less all over the whole wide world "shoot". Over at Simmesport there must be a three to one ratio of dogs to citizens in that little town. Its a long story so will drop it like a hot rock right here.

It is illegal to blatantly shoot a dog for no apparent reason, it is a felony. So if you do have to do the deed make sure you've got proof and backing to cool down the jets of the money grubbers and doo-gooders out there. FYI

Prove it wrong.

I have dealt with these issues to my head hurts and finally got records from the state on top of my trapper rights and if 1 person in this world can prove it wasnt aggressive then you had to be living in its butt to prove it and cant see that with 20/20 vision

You can only be proven wrong by admission (Ever heard the song Queen of denial I am the King )

I spend way to much time ,effort, sweat, and $ to let anything get away with ANYTHING

Julie, this was very interesting! I never thought about that picture. I just assumed that the picture was a made up character, or if she was real that she was already dead. Thanks for posting this.

I'll catch up soon with you on those antiques. One weekend I'll try to meet up with you on one of my Abbeville trips.

Terri, I have hope for your BIG BAD A** rooster.

LOL Twiley - -he isn't "my" roo anymore -- you bought him fair & square - he's YOUR roo!!! I can sure trade you for one of my Welsummer roos - I can tell already this one is gonna be a handful -- I do agree, I do everything I can to live with them in peace but after a certain point -- they either go in the freezer or to the bayou for gator bait. Life's too short to put up w/mean roos. How's it going being back in the working world?

For what it's worth here, when I get stray dogs I can't find owners or anything & they are too wild to capture, we have a livestock control office w/the parish police we can call & he comes out -- he actually had to shoot this one stray with a dart gun last year -- very large & aggressive dog that turned up in our area. Maybe other parish patrols have such an officer in your areas?

Loving this cooler weather & hope it continues-- hope everybody has a great weekend!!

Ok so I almost had to go home today from work, I almost soiled my consons when I walked up on this dead rat. It eyes where open it looked alive. I not scared of rats but gah dang when you walk up on one and dont expect it, my foot was like 6 inches away.

Cool birds I like those game birds
I still need to get my pic of my new boy and post it up here so you can see him, he sure looks a lot better now than he did two weeks ago when I first got him he's a happy camper too he just talks up a storm at feed time and is as gentle as a lamb too. I figured he'd be wild as a march hare but he's very docile for a rough raised bird.

Jeff

Got ya on the rat. Yeah I'm the same way, I'm not too much on surprise/sneak attacks either

Terri, I LOVE that rooster! I wouldn't trade him for anything. I just hope that he changes his attitude. I think that since he's young we have a good chance to get it straight who's "head rooster" in the chicken pen. I did this with two other young roosters and they straightened up. Once they grow spurs and start jumping on you with spurs that's a different story.

Our Parish also has dog catchers that will come out and pick up stray dogs.

I am very busy with my job. The start of school is always crazy until I get adjusted to the schedule and my new students. I'm teaching Special Ed. again. This year, I have 10 special needs students all with different disabilities and different needs. It usually takes me a about a month to get them figured out and then we're good to go. I will usually work with pretty much the same group of kids through their middle school years and then they'll move on to high school. I have 10 really sweet kids this year. I also have lots, and lots of paperwork. I've been staying at school until 6:00 p.m. almost everyday getting organized and planning lessons. By the time I get home I am mentally and phyically drained.

Cadjien, when I saw the picture of the rat I thought he was alive. It wasn't until I read your post that I realized he was dead. That was one BIG rat!

Love that rooster! What do you mean by you will "dubb him soon"? Nice game birds & nice new pen.

Good morning everyone. Very nice outside today. Skeeters were waiting for me at the back door. I sold more muscovys on yesterday, so I am soooooooo happy about that. I still have more to go but the numbers are dropping.

Twiley, I had to laugh at your description of you BIG BAD rooster.

I know that you will get him right.

Terri, I'm loving the cool weather as well.

Cadjien_De_Louisiane, make sure you have an extra set of clothes in your vehicle for days like that.

That rat looks scary. I wonder what happened to him. Love the pics of your chickens.

I hope everyone enjoys their day today. I think I will be cooking up chicken spaghetti today. I"m off to get game bird feed, lay pellets and hay today and to pick up a few things at Wally World. I will be piddling around in the yard with the chickens.

I hope that everyone has one of the best weekends ever this weekend.

I just heard my lil' blue copper maran roo crow for the first time and it was REEEEDICULOUS! It sounded like a baby crying or a sheep or goat. Sort of a "Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaa" sound, and probably the loudest I've ever heard. I had to go out there and check to make sure none of them were injured when flying off the roost because that crow sounded almost like a cry of anguish.
