Wow Jeff, that's a bunch of roosters!
By the way, what game bird 20% feed do you use. I was looking for that stuff made in GA that they were talking about on that other thread and it's not sold in La.

Chris I don't use game bird feed I use Lone star brand 20% starter and switch them to 18% grower at 8 weeks. I'm not against using coccidiostats for the first few weeks of the chicks lives as its very prominent here as wet as we are. If you've ever been through an epidemic of this crap and it wipes out half of your investemet in just a few days and then you spend weeks doctoring the fortunate ones that made it thru the crap, a lot of the nay-sayers would change up their minds on trying to raise immune birds without meds. They've just never been there or done that, no chick can get by the coccidiosis bug if its there. Its a deep subject to really elaborate on for me.

Yes, IT is a lot of roosters I know, I foot the bill/ feed them Ha Ha Ha

What's with these measly litlte numbers of roosters (13) pfft! You ought hear the concerto that cranks up 'round this neighborhood ever mornin' somewhere between ehh 3:30am or somethimes 4 o'clock am. till way after sun-up (why?) no idea but between my 98 roosters +/- a few here and there and my cousin's  15 or 20 something roosters about 100 yds. up the road it gets pretty melodious   here. Just beautimous as my Grandpa used to say.

What other game bird feed is out there?

There are some guys talking about this FRM Show bird feed on another thread. A couple of people said something about feeding Game-bird feed and for some reason I thought Jeff used a Game bird feed.

I have been looking for a 20% pellet feed that I can get here in Covington. I can feed 20% crumbles but would like a pellet instead to cut down on waist. My plan is to feed 20% medicated started for the first 3-4 months then switch them over to a 20% grower in pellet form if I can find it. Then after they hit a year or so old, maybe switch the hens over to a 16-18% layer feed.

Hey there Mike I may be interested in the Dels PM me with some details (a few picks and how many of which and what and of course $$ not that I'm cheap or nuttin' lets just say LIMITED yeah that's it LOL). If I can't do it for some reason or another I might can get you some help with them as I'm in pretty good standings with the Dell lovers that are into them at the time.

Julie, Arrow (O'neals) sells a game-bird(28% I think?) feed if you have a distributor of that brand down around there I'm sure there is as they deliver far and wide.

OK I'm going to try & post a pic of my 1 month old RIRs -- got them moved out into the "grow-out" pen today -- we had to redo the flight netting on top of it, boy that was a chore!!

Hope everybody's doing well & enjoying the weekend-- it's nice weather for sure! wish we could save up some of this cool-ness for the coming months!!

here's the scoop on their bloodline - I edited some of it out - I know from lurking on the RIR thread that Roy Autry is a pretty well known breeder, don't know about George Ryan line but they look to be nice birds, & as I said, I've never had such a nice, healthy hatch of chicks - I am definitely keeping some of them for myself - if they lay like they look - A+ for sure!

Breeder is "luckypickens" on BYC:

"Just added two new roosters from Roy Autry's line to my pen of 13 hens.
These are my favorite of all the big breeds and are a beautiful deep dark mahogany red. They are a show strain that has been raised and shown for over 50 years by the George Ryan Family in Arkansas and have won numerous Blue Ribbons and Best of Show at our county and state fair by them and myself".
