I have a five month old son who loves all animals so far (he loves the feel of chicken feathers under his hand and loves to pet my friends silkies :) ). As far as what breed, I think it's entirely up to you and what breed you like, your purpose for the breed (pets, meat, eggs, breeding, selling, etc.) Have you decided on your purpose as far as having chickens. Do you want a breed that will supply both eggs and meat for your family? It's all up to you.

A girl that works with my wife took them for us. She is not a pro, just a hobby that she likes to play with.

On a different note there Chris, those RIRs are sure growing fast and I think I'm gonna get me a good group of breeders out of them looks like so far, thanks for sharing with me.

I'm glad that the reds are doing good for you. I should be getting my new crop of RIR's any day now just waiting for a call telling me that they are on the way!! Well, my older BR's are finally starting to look like something. I can't wait until they are a full size birds!!!! I also have the ones from Jeremy that are still under lights so I have 18 BR's now all from that same line. Next year should be a lot of fun between the NH's, RIR's and BR's that I have. Come to think of it, I should have some NH's hatching by the end of the week.

The rooster is beautiful and HUGE! Question though, is it normal for their comb to be a little floppy as they are growing?
