Have you crossed buffs & leghorns before? How do they come out? Good for meat/eggs or both? We were thinking about getting a leghorn roo to cross with our buffs...just curious if it's a good mix... :)

no haven't crossed these before. Someone else has and there is a topic on it with pics.

Anyone have a French black copper maran rooster of breeding age around the Livingston, French settlement, gonzales area they want to rehome or sell?

Anybody on here raise doves? We always have tons of them in our backyard, so I was just wondering how hard/enjoyable they are to keep?
Gracie, I think they'd be about the same as pigeons. Growing up, my dad raised lots of pigeons. It seemed to me to be fairly easy. He enjoyed letting them free in the afternoons to watch them fly. He had some homing pigeons that he played around with some, too. I would think that doves would be in the same category. Once I get moved and settled I plan to get some myself. They are also very good to eat.

BTW, I hatched two more sebbies yesterday. Brings me to a total of 9 goslings so far. Unfortunately, 8 of them are from your female. I don't know how interested you'll be in her offspring since you're trying to bring in new blood but, you're welcome to what I have to offer. It just happened that with my first 20-30 eggs I incubated, I tried doing the "dry hatch" method -- unsuccessfully -- and those were the eggs from my other females. When I finally got my hatching technique figured out is when your goose starting laying. I do have a few more eggs yet to finish incubating from other females but we're quickly winding down as my geese have stopped laying. Again, your goose, proving herself to be worthy and/or my gander to be extremely "sex-cited" to have a gal after being celebate for four years,

have had a productive season.

This gander is funny! He is one of my original six Sebastopols. I started out with 4 males and 2 females. He wasn't lucky enough to pair off with a female and therefore his life became very frustrating. He became more aggressive than any of my other geese. We named him "Pinch" because we were always watching out for him NOT to pinch us. Of all my geese, he was the one most likely to bite. In fact, of my 17 Sebastopols he's the only one that bites. Last year, I promised him he'd have a girl by the end of the season. Yes; I do talk to my geese...

And, then your females came along. The name of your female is "Pinchette" because she is Pinch's girl. Now that Pinchette is setting, Pinch is meaner than hell! He doesn't usually try to bite me, however, right now, anything or anyone that goes into that pen is in danger. That is HIS girl! Look out when the babies come! !

Welcome to all NEW La-yers. I missed welcoming several of you new folks.

You will enjoy this sight. There are lots of good people on here willing to help you with any questions that you might have.

Cute chicks Ellpel! makes me want to break out my 'bator & hatch again! (not happening)!
Somebody around here races pigeons & they will bring them out near our house to turn them loose. Love watching them streak over the house!
My cousin's ex raised doves - they lived just up the road - & he turned a bunch of them loose so we have them all over.

I saw the funniest thing on the way home from work -- somebody had lost a loaf of bread by the side of the road. I was sitting at a traffic light & watching as some crows had found it & opened the bag. They had an assembly line thing going - each crow would reach in, grab a whole slice of bread & fly off - then the next one would do the same -- a whole line of crows flying the same direction carrying pieces of bread.

OK off to the produce stand, which had an ad this morning for the first sweet corn & tomatoes of the season! Have a good TGIF everybody!

Good morning everyone. My guinea keets started hatching last night. Here are a few POOR quality pics as I was trying to take pics with them still in the incubator. They were not scheduled to hatch until Saturday. :idunno They are some feisty little critters.

Uh-oh..., Kuntrygirl! Looks like you're becoming a professional incubator. You'll be hooked like the rest of us pretty soon.
