"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

hey everybody

i know i asked this a few days ago but my RIR chicks are 8 weeks old now and im still feeding them straight chick starter, with the exception of a treat every day which is usually a tomatoe out the garden sometimes a few worms from my worm bed. all are very active and look really healthy but i picked up a few of them today and they feel skinny and light should i be adding to there diet or is this normal? i keep the feeders full.

At 8 weeks old I would switch to some kind of Flock Raiser if you can get it. It usually has more protein than the grower or layer pellets. I can get Purina for $13.50 per bag over here at G&H Seed

If you can't find flock raiser gamebird flight conditioner works also. ask your grocery store people if you can have the trimmings & old veggies they pitch out every day - if I can catch the produce manager he'll let me have whole boxes for free.

I have a hen that should hatch some showgirls in a couple of weeks

I'm expecting Blues and Black... maybe even a partridge or two. The Minorcas lay a large white egg. They take a while to fill out, but are a nice looking once they grow into themselves!

They are not show quality, but are excellent layers and foragers! They tolerate the heat VERY well

Those are NICE! I love the white ear lobes & big red combs!

Oreo died today. :(. She was my beautiful cross beak EE chick I posted a picture of last week. Sad day for my 4 year old son. She was his favorite and he keeps asking if we can dig her back up out of her burial spot so he can hold her.

Sad day for my honey as well. He knew the battalion commander (Tisdale) murdered at Fort Bragg very well. He's known him for almost 9 years now.

Terri, weren't you talking about how bad the Mosquitos are at your place? I went out to the coop to shut the windows tonight and I was shocked to see so many Mosquitos! We are getting a fogger!

G'nite, all.
