it's really easy to navigate once you figure it out!.

Welcome Monique!
Got a question...Have anof the Louisiana people here ever fooled
with the Speckled Sussex hens?
If so how did they do and what are they like?

I haven't, but I've been seeing an add on either the BR or NO craigslist for someone selling extra SS pullets they ordered, if you are looking for some locally you might look there.

I started with 2 EE's & 1 Cuckoo Maran from Meyer hatchery last year. Still have them. After several mostly unsuccessful hatches ended up with one pair of Welsummers from breeder stock-the pullet lays a VERY dark browish red egg--and one Cuckoo Marans pullet who also lays a very dark egg, & 2 black true Ameracaunas who both lay a very nice true blue egg - no hint of green at all!

Just hatched a trio of Blue Rocks (from Halo's stock), for sure one pair, blue roo & splash hen & not sure about the other blue yet if it's a boy or girl, and several splash, blue & one black Blue Andalusians from Okiehen's eggs--all of these birds are from breeder stock. (finally got this hatching thing down)

In the incubator due to hatch next week are 13 Welsummer eggs from Okie hen & 6 more of her Blue Andalusian she threw in for luck, & about a dozen EE eggs--they are a light minty green but huge in size so I added them just to put some extra size and color in the old egg basket.

welcome to harryg6167 and berryhill chicks!

We're pretty close neighbors. I'm also in the toe of the boot, just alittle further south than you, berryhill chicks. You're going to love this site. It truly is addictive!

I have an order coming from Cackle this coming week, and because I had a successful incubator hatch and was given some laying hens, we will have more than I need. If anyone is looking for a few day olds, let me know (I'm just east of Lake Charles). I ordered Dominique (pullets), Welsummer (SR), EasterEgger (pullets), Black Jersey Giant (SR), & light brahma chicks (pullets). I'd be happy to rehome a couple of each when/if they arrive healthy, or a couple of the RIR & Delawares I just hatched for my cost.

So if anyone wants a few of any of those breeds just let me know. The chicks I hatched have have been in the brooder in my garage and not around any other birds, and the others will be coming from the hatchery.

Hi Monique!

Do you hatch your own? You have quite an assortment of breeds-are your JG really huge compared to your other breeds? My eight year old studied the McMurray catalog for a long time and decided that those were the chicks he had to have because he thought the concept of giant chickens was cool, so we ordered 5 from cackle. I'm hoping they grow to a good size so he won't be disappointed.
