This is my second year of chicks. Last year I had 10 and they started their life on our farm in our cows water trough, in our utility room (the end of March). They were later moved to the garage in the same trough and eventually out to the coop in June. It was difficult for me to keep their temperature right.
This year has been different! I purchased some panels & rubber exercise mats and two chick heating plates off of Amazon. They all work perfect! I really LOVE the heating plates, because I don't have to keep track of the temperature, just the height of the plates. At 3 weeks old I have moved them to the garage and they are doing VERY well! They are VERY wastful with their feed. So, we have also made a chick version of a feeder that we made last year for our hens. There is not a Single peice of wasted Layer food on the ground of the chicken coop, so we are hoping for the same success with the chicks! (pictures of our feeders and waterers coming soon) (I am sorry, I could not figure out how to rotate these photos
