Loving on your rooster

Einstein and Dostoyevsky - a tail of abandoned roosters. My boys were dumped in our backyard almost three years ago. I love them even though no one else does. Yes, they are mean, and I do have to "suit up" before entering the coop; but, I love their personalities and their crowing. Roosters are the bomb! There's nothing anyone could say to change my mind. They inspire me to appreciate every brand new day. If only we all could greet the morning with a boisterous crow, just embracing the wonder of being live. All hail to the often misunderstood rooster!

It has been said not to love on them because they have a job to do, which is to protect his girls, and that's all. I disagree. My boy is the only one that lets me pet him and pick him up and he still does his job. I think he actual enjoys the contact. If he isn't feeling it, he just a walks away. I mean, sometimes he can be a real grump and jerk to the girls, but, oh man, do I love him.

My boys get along well. I have a 11 week AC mix boy, who I was raising with 2 other mixed boys, They were young and I wanted to combine pens. The AC was bugging a slightly older BO that has blond mental moments but sweet. I moved the AC to be with adult hens and away from his buddies. (Hens always put a young rooster in their place.) With his regular friends unavailable he became good friends with me. I moved his buds back now I will see if he still likes me.
