Loving the chick life!

A local farmer has offered me his 6 hen chicken coop, though still hasn't sent me pictures of it. I'm hoping I can fit it in my mom's van, along with the 3 hens I am hopefully receiving from him. I also have run ideas, but no solid plans yet, as I am working out costs and such. Though I do know I will want to breed my Ayams regardless of whether or not their white toes grow out as adults.

Ya, it does get costly dividing hens up. Chickens don't usually change toe color. Does your mom have a big van? It might if she does. Your getting three hens from him! That will be exciting! Well hopefully the costs are low enough. Are you going to free range? Your run has to be pretty big if you aren't free ranging. This is a picture of two of the barns.

Guy turned out to be a creep, and it was a rabbit hutch not a coop. And I'm not getting chickens from him either. Ugh I hate when things are farce

Your joking! That scoundrel! Well hopefully you find a coop and some hens soon! I by a mistake bought chickens off a farmer who worked in a hen house (You know, the big barns jam packed with birds) and later found out that he was stealing them from the hen house and selling them! I don't go to him any more! Hopefully you'll find a truthful farmer to get your hens off, and coop!

I'm thinking my dad and I are gonna build it and the run. I'm hopefully gonna get a barred rock or two for $7 each! From a reputable farmer too. at least to start my flock off with

They'll be six weeks old. Though my current chicks are a bit skittish even though they've been with me for a few weeks now. Will they grow out of their skittishness?

Not usually, unfortunately...I mean they might, but not likely. I was saying that hens can be because Buff Orpingtons are very docile, but I just got some full growns some weeks ago and they are very skittish. I have had them before and raised them up as chicks and they were very nice. Oh, I wrote a little document on Barred Rocks for you to read here, since your interested in getting the breed.
