I have 12 chickens. I raise them for eggs. But I will keep them their entire lives even when they're not laying anymore. I am currently feeding them non-GMO soy and corn free organic feed. I know there are a lot cheaper feeds out there but I feel comfortable feeding it. The problem is the cost. They do free range in my yard and they get table scraps weeds etc.
I'm thinking of adding oats and alfalfa to help flesh out the food I'm feeding. So I'm looking for opinions on if this is a good idea. And suggestions on other ways to help lessen the overall cost. I do Fermenta the food. That helps.
