I came down with the stupid flu and missed 2 days of work there was no way I could go.
Iam done crying now.

I have seen people there in wheel chairs the first section is on blacktop. the second section is gravel paths the third section is hay field.
I have slept in my car before but that was years ago.You cant get a motel within 100 miles of the place unless you book it now for next year.
To set up the last card I had it was 30 -35 dollars a weekend.May have went up its been 3 years since I had a card. You can get one in the office and it tells all info on it for the next year.

Its always the second weekend in April and October and the first weekend in June.

Sorry you didn't get to go. June really isn't all that far away, though.

Yeah, I saw several people with wheelchairs there in all the sections. They get through it all somehow. Well, certain parts were quite muddy today. They might have avoided those.

1 word CRAZY!
lol this was my first time going. We got "in line" at about 10 and didn't get to park till noon. Sitting in the car for 2 hours while other people went to the front of the line and cut in was really annoying, but finally people stopped letting them in and there was almost a fight lol. By the time we got there most of the bantams were gone and it just wasn't what I expected so I was bummed and didn't even by anything. The animals are so crammed in the cages its terrible and yep someone bought a baby bear and someone else was selling coyote pups with their eyes still closed. I also thought it would be mostly ag.stuff, I had no clue all that other stuff would be there. We left saying we'd never go back, but now that we took a nap and thought about it we will go back but we will get there before 8. I also wish I would have bought a few chickens

All the shows I have been to had a sale area. Also, some people will sell some of their birds that are in the show, but you have to wait until they are released from the show coops to get those.

We went Saturday and I have to say that the Southern Ohio Poultry Association should be ashamed to have their name associated with that JUNK SALE!!! It had been about 15 years since I had been to Lucasville. It used to be great. You never knew what kind of animals you might see. I was shocked when I saw the junk that people brought to sell this year. I saw more garbage than I saw poultry. There were people actually selling old washing machines. COME ON, Washing machines at a poultry association sponsored swap meet!! We waited for over 3 HOURS on the highway to get in the place and a local fireman told me that it is always like that.

IF IT IS ALWAYS LIKE THAT WHY DON'T THEY PLAN FOR THE TRAFFIC SO IT DOESN'T HAPPEN EVERY TIME!!!!

Back in the day the junk people (there weren't too many back then) had to set up in the back and the animals were all up front. You didn't have to wade through the junk to find the critters. Now the animals are litterally stuffed up under tables of YARDSALE JUNK. You have to actually look under tables of junk to find the animals.

The Southern Ohio Poultry Association should be ashamed to have their name associated with this event!

I was told you couldn't sleep in your car on the fairgrounds, not unless you have a set up for selling stuff at the swap meet the next day. So where would you park to sleep, but still be the first in line when the doors open on Saturday? If you get there when it opens at 7 am, will you still have to deal with a lot of people being there? I really would just like to get in and get what I am looking for and leave, I don't care for crowds much. Hence the getting there as soon as they open. Does anyone know how it is when they first open? Is there no hope of getting away before the crowds hit?

I was there.. about a hour and half drive and then We sat in the car for almost 2 hours on the highway, and still hadnt made it to where you park.. - So My brother got out his laptop and found a shortcut, and we went 'around' --- VERY good idea! we got right in, and only had to wait about 20 minutes to park from there..

I was Very Disappointed.. My mom warned me it was a trash sale, she said people take Truck Fulls of Garbage and actually sell it.. LOL - She was right

There werent a bunch of Chickens.. There were some.. Most of them were sold by the time we got in there.. But, I bought about 10..

2 of them, I bought from a very nice woman! a Beautiful Hen and Rooster! Absolutely Beautiful and Good Natured.. and I promised her I would make them a Good Home!! and she said she believed me, and she said I was an answer to her prayer, that she had prayed People like me would buy her chickens and take great care of them!! After that, I thought about it and I wanted to go back and buy all her chickens! lol.. she was so Nice!

and then all the rest of the chickens that I bought, I mostly felt sorry for - because they were all in such poor little tiny cages underneath of tables and tarps.. I bought two hens that had thier legs tied with a rope to the back of some guys bumper! I got them for 5$ each, the guy was a little bit toothless and 'deliverance-ish' LOL but, his chickens were s cute.. just very stand-offish.

Hi all,
We went, had reservations at hotel.
I must say, I was VERY disappointed.
"junk sale" was right.
I was under the impression there would be wall to wall critters....
NOT, It was a huge flea market. Alot of junk, and a lot of the birds that were there looked unhealthy.
A few had some decent birds but we are not into gamebirds so not interested and some stuff was just too high.
Alot of goats, Some skinney horses, and WOW a ton of mixed breed puppies that they were asking $300++ for! A couple registered places but the puppies looked horrible.
And we came home today, spent an extra night and had dinner and just relaxed, haha.
The grounds looked HORRIBLE today! People just left boxes and PILES of trash they didn't sell sitting everywhere.
They should really rethink how they do that down there. Not to mention start charging people who don't clean up after themselves, or not allowing them back the next time, it looked like a total pigsty today.
No way I'd go in june, to hot and would be a mess, standing around. Maybe in sept for something to do and have a weekend away, only we'd know not to have high hopes. haha!
On the bright side, while everyone else waited in line to get in for hours, we drove on past, and turned around and got right in from the other direction...no waiting, just a tip for those who go next time, lol!

I did hear there was some big swap with, really, a lot of critters in West virginia somewhere but I need to find more information.

Take care all,
Angela

p.s. we booked our hotel about 4 days before we went and were about 5 min away from the swap, no problemo. Word gets out how crappy it really is and people will stop going, less crowds, traffic, less money making, ($5 parking a pop) they will clean up their act.....

Heres a tip for you new people as I have set up and sold there and go to all three every year. Keep this in mind for the next one. If you do not get in Saterday before noon all poultry of good quality are already sold so you are rummageing through the left overs. Sunday is just a joke and you wasted your gas if you go then. Show and exhibtion stock is limited and half the other people who go are looking for the same thing. Same goes for anything rare and unusual. You have to be in at the crack of dawn Saterday and then its more crowded then you think. Everytime I have ever set up there I was sold out by Noon and packed up on my way home as many others are.
