Hi all! I've just started to keep pekin bantams and have noticed that one of my 4 hens has a lump on her face

Would anybody know what can cause this and what the relevant treatment is (were UK based)? She's otherwise fine, eating well and no symptoms at all.

When she breathes in and out, do you see the lump correspond by deflating and inflating?

Have you checked her nares for obstruction? Sometimes they can become clogged with dirt and food and when a chicken can't breathe through them, it causes that exact spot to swell with air from the respirations.

Hi thanks for your response, the lump remains fairly solid when she breathes and as far as I can tell, her nares are not blocked at all. Should I clean them anyway to make sure? If so what would be the best cause of action?

If the lump is hard and not air filled, it's likely a tumor. These aren't always malignant. If she's otherwise behaving normally, leave it alone. I had a hen who recently died at close to fourteen years old who had a tumor on her head for seven years with no ill effect.
