Lump close to tail

Hello people of BYC!

If you don’t know, I got a little pullet Nov 4. named Scamp. Anyway, she has this lump forming and it grew over night.

Yesterday she was in her coop area perching while picking at this one spot on her feathers. I checked to see if she had anything, didn’t really look like anything.

This morning, I go check on her and this lump had grown over night! Im not sure what it is or what caused it. And I’m dumbfounded by whatever it is. Any help would be appreciated.

That is just her oil gland. She's supposed to have that. They rub their beaks on it, then rub the oil over their feathers.

Don't worry your not alone in this mistake, I worried that at first.
They need the oil from it for their feathers! Her 'picking' was getting oil from it.

Yes it is interesting! If you watch them preen they will always gather oil from it.
