Lump on chest, not crop, possible tumor?

Hello,

I have a 1yr old barred rock. About 3 days ago I noticed that she had a lump on her chest (in the middle). She was also acting abnormal (not perky, standing around, not very interested in food). The lump is very hard and does not give at all when squeezee (like a hard rubber ball).

I researched and thought it might be an impacted crop, and I tried several remedies to no avail. I was slightly concerned that it may not be her crop because it wasn't on her right side. Regardless, we decided we would attempt surgery.

We opened her up and cut open the mass. I cut about an inch into it and it appeared to be completely solid. When sticking a finger in it there was no empty space to be felt. The mass also appeared to have blood vessels running through it as she bled quite a bit. We closed her back up and are very disappointed and saddened.

I am looking for your thoughts on whether or not this is indeed a tumor, or possibly something else?

Thank you for your time.
