Don’t feel bad, I thought the OP meant the crop at first. They had to point it out to me.

I still feel bad for not seeing it.

It is very reminiscent of an abscess. If only there was a clearer picture.

If it is an abscess it is very advanced. I would recommend a vet as the top thing to do. I’m going to have to leave this to the experts in @Pyxis and @casportpony as poultry abscess are different than mammal abscesses.

Get a long handled fish net, and catch it, then look at it. From the superficial glance at it that we're getting, I agree that it appears like a large abscess.

It could be a larvae in there. Oh man, I wish I could see that up close and touch it.

Also weirdly, It looks almost like a cutaneous horn that can grow from the base of squamous cell skin cancer but I don’t know if birds can get that!

Can you try your very best to catch this guy and get some close pictures and feel it to see if it’s hard or soft. Does it have a little hole in the middle? (Botfly)

And what the skin looks like around it’s base where it’s attached to its skin?

So, what's the status on the duck? Have you been able to catch it, and examine it more closely? When you do, please take some close up pictures, and post them.
