. We have 3 Buffs, we are thinking of getting a couple more but we would like a different breed this time ... is that a good idea to mix breeds?

Why not? You do want to read up on "integrating new birds with old." You can't just throw new birds in the mix - the established ones will attack them. Chickens take pecking order very seriously and don't like to share food, housing or recreation.
