Day 9 4:00 AM couldn't sleep

This is the only one that looked like it had a dark spot...I'm guessing that's an eye?

Most of the other eggs looked like this (most are brown eggs-hard to see) Are these alive? Seemed like they had a clear spot at one end, dark mass in the middle and another lighter small part at the other end

I'm no expert but I'd say the first one is dead. Second one is definitely alive, and I think I see veining in the 3rd. Hopefully someone with more experience will chime in on this one.

Most are like the 3rd one (except a few clears). They are mostly brown or dark brown eggs so I am having a hard time seeing the veins. My DH is bringing home some lights from the office. One of the things he sells are led bulbs

Desk Demolition...FUN

ok phase 1
took all the interior walls down, need to sand a bit, put up a wall and a bottom, but this is the progress so far.

4' 4" x 2' = 9 square feet of floor space, it's 2 feet tall....Does it still have potential??

LOL, but you are right

is that enough space for say 6-8 pullets at 6-8 weeks old....I don't think so

I think it would be fine.......they'll have their own personal run. I can't remember though from last year how big they are at 8 weeks old. My brain is a little fried today. My broody was due to hatch out this past Wednesday and Friday. Today I candled and I had rotten eggs and quitters. None were good. So I've been sulking.....

Anyway, are you thinking of something else then? Totally different? Perhaps building it instead of using the desk? Did you decide if it was going to be a permanent fixture to your existing coop and run?

chicks4kids, oh man I am so sorry your hatch went badly. I'll PM you

The desk...or now it's know as THE OMELET RANCH NURSERY" is done, all painted a bright yellow like our coop! I'll put some linoleum squares on the floor today and get the light set up. I have no idea how long it's going to last them as far as space goes, and really without knowing how many we are going to have I'm not going to go much farther in getting all worried about it. It's not sturdy enough to be made into part of the coop, HOWEVER We are replacing some hot tub equipment that is in this little shed and DH is thinking of replacing it with something else sooooooo!!! I'm going to take a look at repurposing it today for The Omelet Ranch WEST WING. (or could be north, east or south wing - heck I have no idea where north is - directionally impaired!)

I'll put up pictures later today. We are also going to candle with my DH's ultra high powered bulbs tonight. I think I'll toss the blood ring one for sure. and then I'm going to leave them be until lockdown. Gosh i hope some hatch. If not....hmmmm....I think I may do it again....oh I'm crazy

Day 11

Voila....The Omelet ranch Nursery

What do you all think? I got the temp to hover around 100 degrees last night perfect I think for the first week?? right?

for your hatch to go well, I wanna see some fuzzy butts running around in there. You've got a ways to go so I'm getting ahead of myself, but I can't remember if you've brooded before so.....don't forget to put some marbles or rocks in the water trough, they can drown in crazy small amounts of water so it's best to be super careful.

I didn't get to check in much this weekend, got my dad to drive up with his tractor

and till up a 60x25' garden plot for me. Lots of work now and later, but I'm really excited. I was supposed to get it done last spring, but got the flu and nobody wanted to be anywhere near here. Now I just have to chicken/cow proof it--the birds don't fly over the 4' field fence around the property, but a few will go over the 10' in the run if I don't let them out early enough so I'm not sure what I'm going to have to do to keep them out... Ooops! Way O.T., I'm rambling again.

Love the omlet yellow color too.
