Mad and frustrated at a stupid ad on TV! (RANT!!!)

If my 5 year old says he doesn't like something, I know he actually doesn't like it because there are so few foods he doesn't like. With that I have a rule in this house...If you don't like something, you have to at least take one bite about 3-4 times a year. Taste-buds change and also the way things are prepared. If you train your child to be picky then guess what, they will be picky. Surprise surprise.

You are totally right. That is unacceptable behavior and completely the parents fault.

Hmm i'm pretty sure my mom's spinach was toxic... she's boil it till it was a mass of green slime and drench it in vinegar. Here if it's a new dish we all have to try it, if we hate it, it doesn't reappear. But no eating it once and then deciding you don't like the same dish you've eaten for 3 years.

Our mom's must have shared recipes...

We don't eat what we all hate, but my DD would live off of meat! My girls are the world's WORST at saying they love something one day and hate it the next just bc they don't WANT it the second time. SOOOO annoying...lol!

I am sooo lucky with all 3 of my kids... I NEVER have to alter a meal or offer something different due to food allergies or picky eaters. My kids eat everything and I truly have no patience for other kids that come over and turn their nose up at stuff especially if they have never tried it before

I think some of our mom's were all in cahoot's about the spinach thing. Mine also boiled it down to a green almost mush, then squirted it with lemon juice. I was made to eat it and I still hate it! But, back on topic, one of my kids eats anything I put on the table, the other will pick over every bite, looking for that elusive, tiny bit of onion, heaven forbid he eat one! I don't ever cook separate meals, everybody eat's what's on the table. They are certainly allowed to dislike things but they have to try a bite whenever it's served. I can't do the PBJ substitue here or my younger one would try that every night. He has slowly learned to like a lot of healthy foods just because I make him try them over and over.

And yes, those commercials irritate the bejeebers out of me too!

Ack. Those commercials.

My kids didnt have the luxury of being picky. If you were hungry, you ate what was put in front of you.(same as when I was growing up!) And iffen you didnt, a sibling would be happy to relieve you of the food you didnt want!!

The BF's brother's kids drive me up the wall with this. They'll sit at the table and throw a total fit because they don't like sausage on their pizza or something else stupid (ironically, they all eat it if it's not on pizza), then when they finally get up from the table, they whine ALL DAY about how hungry they are. Thankfully, their dad is very strict about it. Either you eat what's on the dinner table, or you don't eat, plain and simple. It's still a PITA to listen to them though. I'm fortunate, my son will eat ANYTHING, except olives. That is the only food that he will not eat, lol.

I kept a friends 3 kids while they went out to dinner. So I planned a kid friendly meal of healthy but not too yucky stuff.

Mom says, "Well, Kid #1 only likes this and Kid #2 won't eat that and the other one always wants this other. I usually just make each one a separate dinner".

I looked at her and said "You're kidding right?"

She and hubby left. I served dinner. The kids ate it.

You gotta set the expectation and stick to it.
