Mad and frustrated at a stupid ad on TV! (RANT!!!)

I don't mind my kids getting chocolate milk at school lunch, the rest of the meal is garbage anyway so at least they are getting something semi-nutritious and the calcium they need (but not many kids get), I HATED white milk at school, the stuff in the carton tasted terrible compared to the milk at home. I have a problem when that is ALL the kids drink for milk is chocolate milk, and the family makes it such a deal for my MIL she will purchase it.

And as far as school treats go, I do not think there should be an issue if what is brought in is a nutritious cookie of muffin or cake made from scratch. What is irritating to me is when they DEMAND you bring in pre-packaged snacks. I can mix up individual trail mix packages myself for 1/2 the cost and they would be just as good as the store bought junk, but without the preservatives.

Our school has a nutrition program that has removed the chocolate milk from the lunches except on Friday's because of the high sugar content. Yet the school still serves fruit canned in heavy syrup and diet salad dressings...... and they serve the same prepackaged crap that was served 20 years ago. If you want to overhaul the school lunch program, fire the kitchen staff and replace them with individuals who have been trained to cook for institutions through a culinary program. It can and has been done successfully, and then it would not matter so much if the kids were drinking chocolate milk or bringing a cookie or what-not to school for lunch.

I am so thankful I have a husband that will eat anything that doesn't eat him. (The only thing he can't eat is fish and seafood because he's allergic.) Even if I put something on the table that he really doesn't care for, he tells me, "This is wonderful!" and thanks me for cooking him a hot meal.

Now that we are hanging on by a thread there are lots more bean, or soup, or egg nights and less beef and pork chops. But he never complains.

I'm afraid firing the kitchen staff would put really good people out of work. It's not up to them what they serve, they take the delivery from the main warehouse and serve what they are told to serve. They have a fully functional kitchen that is used to reheat this pre packed garbage instead of being allowed to cook in it. We have a really talented kitchen manager though and she does what she can to try and make it tasty and interesting, but she can only work with what she's given.

Now if that were back in the day and a teacher or administrator saw a kid throw a perfectly good breakfast or lunch in the trash can, they wouldn't be eating there again for a very long time, and the parents would be called in to explain any action taken on the student.

WHY can we no longer stand up for moral values and principles!??!?!?!?!?!?

I've been lucky that at our school they do cook on sight. The new crew we have is pretty good. They even bring in different spices and stuff the try to make it better.

The last crew made 6 staff all in one day. I didn't eat in the cafe' for the next 4 years until they were gone!

Writer, I think we were twin sisters in another life.
My kids ate what was put in front of them or they went hungryyyyyyyyyyyyyy.
Now as adults, there's not a picky eater among them.

I remember facing the same food for 3 meals that I refused to eat at the first meal..........

Once I sat looking at brussel sprouts for breakfast.......

Now surprisingly it's one of my fav. veggies,,,,,,, but not reheated 3 times..........
