Mad with a broken heart

I'm sorry!! :( :( If something got my pet "Princess" I would be devastated. I get really upset when I hear about dogs killing chickens and the owner's don't even bat an eye. I've dealt with chicken killing dogs before and now report everything to the local authorities to hopefully shake them up a bit.

Good point, laydbird; we had a similar problem with some renters" several years ago. They moved into the neighbor-hood with two dogs, even though the apartment they were renting had NO yard. The dog owners simply let their dogs out whenever they had to go to the bathroom, and usually left them out for a long time; naturally, the dogs went where ever their noses led them. I personally had the owners cited seven times, my neighbor had them cited twelve times!
Finally, the judge ordered the owners to perminately remove the dogs from the City Limits! It took a long time, and the owner paid well over $3,500 in fines, that I know of. I guess that those of us who consider ourselves responsible pet owners will never understand irresponsible owners; but persistance will win out!!

I truly hope your beloved pets (Chickens) get better.
I am a type of person that helps nieghbors not in money but time or a extra hand. Seven years ago, my husband said we should fence in the whole five acres and have a gate, (stupid me) told him no, that I feel we need to keep the nieghbors kids safe, if we fenced this in the kids that visits other kids will not be safe. They would have to use the main road with cars going by, they would be much safer using our driveway to cut across, RULES walk your bike, stay on the driveway walk motor bikes that's it.
The bad apple neighbor we were neighborly, she called twice because she ran over her pigme goat didn't have a clue what to do (LIKE CALL A VET NOW!!!) .The one goat broken leg the first time second time they got lucky.
I then asked if she would CLOSE HER GATE TO KEEP HER DOGS IN.Her response was oh they get out even if the gate is close I said ok, do you want my husband and I to fix any places that they get of, she said that sound good.So hubby and I fixed her fence, so her dogs will stay in her yard.OK WILL DOGS WOULD HAVE BEEN IN HER 5 ACRES OF LAND BUT SHE WAS TO FRECKING LAZY TO SHUT HER GATE!!!!!!!SO MY DOG HAD TO DIE!!!!!! my dog was on my land she never left the yard, and her comment has been the same for the last five years your dog should have been inside your house!!! (Mind ya she is laughing, tears running down my face) so I guess my dog, was going yo use the house as a bathroom while hers are in my yard.
this year I banned her son from our land, disobeying the rules plus being mean to my critters.his latest meanness, tieing ropes to trees, so if you are walking, you will fall down also putting the ropes high enough so if I was riding my horse WAMMO down I go, with a rope burn on the neck.this was not his land he was pulling this curel joke.
as it stand now my husband got sick COPD its very hard for him to work on stuff, so I really wished that I had said yes to him seven years ago putting a fence in.
I just got my chickens today and I am hoping they will be safe (yes. I understand about the bullet and yes that has ran though my mind but after its done deal I couldn't handle killing the dog its the owners)
it does not pay being nice!!!!!! THEY JUST LAUGH AT YOUR PAIN!!!!!

Louie I sure hopes this works, I believe they should not own any animals, not even a rat.!

I am so sorry for your loss.
We just had the same thing happen to us. 2 of our hens got mauled by our neighbors Rottweiler who jumped our 5 foot fence. The girls are still alive BARLEY. I hope they will make it. We talked to the neighbors who said they are sorry but did not know what they could do about it?
We thought we help them out and put up barbed wire on top of the fence. We love our chickens they are our pets. I know some people don't care about chickens but I feel your pain.

Their dogs so they should pay for anything you need with in reason to get your pet better from the attack. If your two don't make it perhaps replacements should be in order. And I think the barbed wire would be effective but not pretty.

Thank you all so much for your comments. Everyone on this site are so nice. I miss my little buddy so much. He made me laugh. His name was Bam Bam. He was slower than my other birds. The way he acted was like his elevator didn't go all the way to the top. When I let my chickens out to let them run he had a funny little hop like he was walking on his tippy toes. I just wanted to tell a little bit about him. I did have to call police because the dog would run my fence. Since the police talk to them I have not seen the dog so I'm very happy about that. Thank you all so much. I know on this site all of you would understand and know what it's like to loose a chicken.
