To the originall Poster: I would advise, as a chiCken Keeper, with three Dog keeping Neighbors, to calmly plan, what to do in the Future, and prepare accordingly.

A dog chasing my chickens, goats, or even hanging around too long would be dealt with quickly. Chasing horses is unquestionably reason to shoot the dog(s).

My horses are my pets, as of now I don't have the heart to end the dogs lives and it would just be more dogs the neighbor would get.so if I hit them in the pocket book and if the 4th time hit with fines its court time, the county will 100% deal with roaming dogs, also might forbid them to own dogs.
even their mean kid throws rocks at the horses, and chase the peacocks, just to mean.
I THINK ALL OF THESES BAD APPLES NIEGHBORS SHOULD ALL LIVE NEAR EACH OTHER, THAT WOULD BE FUNNY THEY CAN PLAY THEIR GAMES TO EACH OTHER.

Each to his own, but I guarantee you I could get rid of the dogs cheaper and faster than they could replace them.

Chickster, so sorry about your chicken. If the dog comes back and you can catch it, tie it up and call animal control to pick it up, and file a report if it gets another bird. The owners will have to pay to get their dog back, and it may be more likely to teach them to keep it home. They will not take you seriously if you just return the dog to them.

I am so sorry for your loss.
We just had the same thing happen to us. 2 of our hens got mauled by our neighbors Rottweiler who jumped our 5 foot fence. The girls are still alive BARLEY. I hope they will make it. We talked to the neighbors who said they are sorry but did not know what they could do about it?
We thought we help them out and put up barbed wire on top of the fence. We love our chickens they are our pets. I know some people don't care about chickens but I feel your pain.

I am so sorry. Man, if that was they were MY neighbors, they would never ever hear the end of it, and I would probably take drastic measures. But that is just me. I am so sorry for your loss.

Five years ago I lost my baby (golden reviever) she was 12 years old and my nieghbors dog killed her, to this day that women laughs at because of my pain, she enjoys it. She got 2 extra dogs total of her dogs 4 they are now chasing my horses.
but I called the law, so everytime I go outside I take my trusty camera TIME, DATE and a pic of the dogs each dog a fine, the more pics per a day the higher the fines are,someday its going to be not worth paying the fine and lock her mutts up.

She wouldn't be laughing if her dogs bothered my stock. They'd be dead. And she'd be out some dogs. Ammo is cheaper than dogs or dog food. I think I could win that one.
