He is still breathing. I just never had a chick that made a hole that big AND didn't hatch on day 21. Good luck on your hatch!

You need to give them 24 hours from the pip till zipping , so if its been 8 or 12 hours you dont need to worry now if the op egg has been pipped really for more then 24 hours it then his right to decide to check on the baby or not . But like somoene said they dont read the books they hatch day 18 or day 25 they didnt know it was sapose to be day 21 . I personally dont let eggs that have been pipped for more then 24 hours go un checked , some times you look at them and there alive and bright and the membrane looks ok so you just put the lazy little blighters back and some times you can tell there tired or the membrane is all petrifiedand you know you need to help but this is AFTER 24 hours not 2 hours not 6 hours not 12 hours.

I had a chick that pipped, I panicked because we came upon 24 hours and it was still just sitting there. I decided to try to help since it went past 24 hrs. I killed it, it was still absorbing the yolk and there were still big, full veins. One of my first hatches, I just leave them be now.

eta-if you do decide to help I suggest only opening a little of the air cell. You will be able to see the membrane and if the veins are still large and look full of blood then the chick is NOT ready, cover with moist paper towel and replace. If the veins are extremely thin and barely noticeable then I might make a choice to help a little. Good luck

Oh and to the other poster if youre humidity is only 68% thats possibly to low you may want to put a straw in there and rewet the sponge or what not . SOme people have good luck with dry hatching some dont , I think it depends on the persons experance, the humidity where they live, the bator they have , the eggs that are hatching, ect But if it was me I think id want about 70-75% just to make shure.
