Made a hole but no zipping "PIC ADDED" pg 3

I have tubing and I was thinking about putting some water in. I'm thinking of doing it a tablespoon at a time though. It seems that humidity can spike quickly?

This is the size of the hole. It has been like this since Thursday night.

well then if its really been like that exactly with no or almost no progress for 48 hours I would personally intervien , thats just me though Im not expert , if there not ready you can kill them but usually if they make a hole that big and then dont make progress for 2 days there stuck , can you see the membrane at all?

No I can't see the membrane. Pretty much all I see is his beak. It's almost like he can't turn his head.

desertlovers, I'm thinking gabrielle1976 is right and perhaps you should intervene? Maybe if you can carefully get a bit more shell of the chick could move. Having been like that since Thursday.....it seems an awfully long time. Is he moving his beak at all? Opening and closing his beak a bit? I'm not an expert though, this is only my second hatch.

My own chick hatched 17 hours after pipping. I have 7 more (of 25 eggs total) that pipped this afternoon and this evening and I'm hoping they'll hatch soon.

i would be taking the egg apart piece by piece with tweezers by now. very carefully. if you see any blood, stop and put him back in the incubator. wait a few hours and if still no progress, take away more shell. i had a few that piped and then stopped. that was enough to dry out the membrane and they got stuck. that membrane is like rubber when it dries out.

I ended up helping the poor little guy last night. With the help of a new friend, I was able to get him out ok. His membrane was completely dry and stuck to him and he had already pooped! No way could he have gotten out on his own... Sadly to say, he has, what looks to be, a deformed leg. I will give him a few days and hopefully it will improve... Thank you all for your help and concerns. Once again all you great BYC'ers came thru!

i had a chick with a deformed leg. it was all curled up and he couldn't move it. i took a piece of cardboard in the shape of a duckling foot and taped his foot on it to flatten it out. i changed it every day to make sure it wasn't too dirty or anything. his foot looked normal after a day.

he is up and walking, flapping around and being an over all normal chick. i can barely tell him from the others. he still has a toe that is curved slightly outward and i am going to make a little toothpick splint for it and see if that straightens it out. one of his legs was pointed slightly inward as well but he seems to have grown out of it since he started walking.

can you show us a pic? it may not be too late to save his foot! i am glad he made it out alive

you might not want to use him for breeding as he may pass on those genes, but i am sure he will be a good chicken to have around!
