Made in America?

this may have been said already and if so I'm sorry... BUT made in America... does not always mean what you think. It simply means that the item was assembled in the USA.... they can buy all the parts from canada and have them shipped over in a honkin container ship and assembled in the USA... it can have the USA label on it.

I try to buy made in Canada or USA. We are in the same boat as you are... most of our jobs have been shipped to other countries. Try calling Bell Canada tech support... you will get someone in India who English is NOT their first language and then gets mad at you cause you cant understand them.

One might ask them self if some of the exported jobs are really worth bringing back, I am referring to the sub-minimum wage jobs, so far the hispanics are for the most part the only ones willing to work at those pay rates and that is changing also. Just a thought.

I'd like to see someone actually live off of food that is 100% made and grown in America.

Unless you or someone you know has a good greenhouse, say goodbye to bananas, chocolate, most melons, mangoes, most beverages, probably half of the wheat products out there, anything with vanilla in it, most nuts, . . . . I could go on.

You should meet my housemate then. She only buys local food. It's awesome to see how excited she is about food as it comes into season, and interesting to hear her define what local means to her. This year I am trying to grow watermelon for her because she misses it. Right now they are only the size of baseball.

She should come by my place.

I've got loads of watermelons of every color (flesh) and every flavor out there. And they're bigger than baseballs. I think the most exciting thing at the moment though are our tomatoes - We're talking every color possible out there, every shape and size out there, and every flavor out there. And I'm talking 6-7 foot plants.

I'll have over 100 lbs of Bananas this upcoming spring too though. I'm pretty much going for the goal of 100% homegrown food. Chocolate included.

I share that peeve and believe it to be a noteworthy part of the problem. I think it's part of the same issue.

And see, for me that's the crux of it all. It IS complicated. I get sick and tired of the 15 second sound bites. I cannot stand to listen. And if I happen upon a more in depth view of what's going on, it's all suspect to me. Who the heck is telling the truth anyway these days?

I want something I can do.
