Magazine suggestions?

lyn,
it's hard to find a mag that is both earth conscious and politically conservative. it's kind of an oxymoron especially since most conseratives refuse to acknowledge global warming. dawn and i have been readers of "mother earth" for many many years, but recently we have been "put off" by all of the celeb green home articles. of coarse if you have unlimmited funds you can afford to be green. but it seems that "mother" has forsaken the basic diy homesteader in lieu of the urban yuppie trying to apear "green" to their pathetic "green" friends. the same holds true for "green vehickles" if you can afford tripple the car payment, you too can be "green". if our subscription wasn't a gift we'de probably let it go. ah well for sure we'de let it go, we get backyard chicken (practical), hobbyfarm (totally yuppie high-end), pracitcal poultry (european, high-end, but really good info and expensive), and "mother" ( as of late totally yuppie and pretty much pales in comparison to the "old days").
i am personally disgusted by the 2 party system and consider myself a libertarion/green party member, hows that for a contridiction? extremily conserative but totally green, live and learn. everybody needs to find their niche, no one on this site will ever agree that's the best idea when everybody has so many great ideas. thats the best thing about a community, everyone has cool input.

sorry for so much bungle in the jungle.

cheers,

doc

I enjoy farm and ranch living. It's not really about chickens, just farm and ranch life in general. They have awesome pics and follow 4 farm families around in a diary for a month. They also have a lot of articles about the good ol' days.

doc_gonzo, generally speaking I really dislike generalizations. I think you'll find there are plenty of conservative minded people who are environmentally conscious and aware of the damage we're doing to the planet. As for acknowledging global warming yes, it's occurring, but it has yet to be proven we have anything to do with it. Tying global warming in to the pollution and energy problems we have does little but cause contention. We need to stop polluting, we need to find alternative forms of energy and break free from the petro-chemical economy we run on - but what are you going to do when global warming is shown to be nothing more than an earth cycle....takes credibility away from the real cause, which is living cleanly on the earth. You'd get a lot more people listening and paying attention if you'd stop trying to tie something into a genuine cause that isn't genuine.

Now back to chickens and magazines, the subject of this thread.

I get Backyard Chickens and my family gets Countryside Magazine & Small Stock Journal. I highly recommend both!

When I can find one, I get Backwoods Home from the library-they are VERY popular in my largely city library and are always battered when I get one. I also get Mother Earth from the library but several branches have those so they are never so battered as the Backwoods Home magazines.

Sigh...there are so many great magazines out there, I could get them all if I could afford it!

Thank you for the link, ReinBeau!

I'm still mourning the loss of, Farmstead magazine. If anyone has a set, and no longer wants it, I'd be interested in them. Mine were lost when we moved, 20 yrs. ago.
