All of my call duck hens are laying eggs. I even have a Black Bibbed sitting on eggs. However the eggs I want the most are my Magpie call duck eggs and she's NOT laying!? I put her with my only Magpie male. I haven't ever seen them breed. I put them together in a separate pen. Do you think something is wrong with them? They are healthy. Do ducks reject mates?

I have had a few Calls over the years that never laid any eggs or very few, they were quite young birds too. I'm not sure of the cause, but Calls aren't really known for their high egg production in the first place.

In my experience, since they seem to retain much of their wild ancestors, females can sometimes be picky when choosing a mate. You don't mention how long they have been penned with each other, they may just need some 'alone time' for a while.

Thank you for your response!
They are exactly 1 year old. They've only been penned together for less than 2 weeks. They do get along really well.
I have a solid Brown male call duck she used to get along great with. She's Black and White, what would happen if after a few more weeks I put the Brown one with her. If they bred would it keep the Magpie coloring? Do males stimulate the egg production?
Sorry, I've never cared about ducks breeding before so I never really paid attention. I have full size Rouens, Blue Bibbed, and White Pekins: they run around the yard and lay eggs everywhere.

1 year old is still young. Give her some time.
They typically aren't picky about mates so if he's breeding her and he's not a dud, he should get the job done!

They can be duds though, male or female. In my experience when females are duds they still lay eggs.
