Magpies?

Edit: wait a second....Is a magpie a breed? Did I just post random pictures for nothing?? :th

I can't believe it; but I just checked both my old ipod AND my phone and realized I barely have any recent pictures of my Muscovy magpie Firefly. :barnie But this is him:

This was when my hen was still sitting on her eggs, and whenever she came out of the coop Firefly would attack her if I didn't put him away first. (He got put in duck prison for being a bad bird...)

This is Bumblebee. :)

Alright here we go....

The 2 breeds are somewhat similar but they both have their differences. They both originated from the Belgian Huttegem and the Runner. The Anconas are a bit bulkier and weigh a little more than the Magpie. The Anconas also come in more varieties. Magpies come in Black and Blue and Silver. Anconas come in Lilac, Black, Blue,Chocolate etc. The main difference in overall appearance is that Anconas are supposed to have a haphazardly broken pattern throughout their plumage. Magpies are supposed to only have colored areas in certain spots. Like this:

Other things between them that are different are things like egg production, temperament etc....

Make sense?

He's a gorgeous drake. I love the name Bumblebee for that cute little duckling.

Thanks for posting! After you took the time to explain it to me I have been getting a lot better at differentiating them. They are so cute! You explanation was simple to see and understand.:highfive:

I know it’s really really easy for you to tell since you breed magpies. Thank you, thank you, thank you for making it pure and simple for everyone to understand. As I believe most people who are new to ducks have the same misunderstanding that I did!
