Mahonri's 2nd Annual BYC EASTER HATCH. Post pics of your chicks!

I finished up my hatch yesterday. I wound up with 11 chicks. There was a 12th that hatched but when I got home yesterday it had passed away in the bator during the day.

I candled the other 10 eggs and they had all quit some time after lockdown. I didn't have any temperature spikes and my humidity was good through the whole hatch so who knows

This was only my second hatch so I figure I just have to keep doing it until I get 100% right?

On a great note, the other 11 are doing great. These Brahma chicks are so much calmer and quieter than the other chicks I hatched. So now the bator is all cleaned up and ready to go again for this hatch. I did learn one more thing last night. Do not submerge the bottom part of a Brinsea Octagon without taking it apart. Not only does water get inside and it is almost impossible to get out but there is foam inside (I think for insulating the bator) that won't dry out properly. I took the bottom apart and discovered this last night. From now on, when I clean it after a hatch, I will take the bottom apart to clean it.
Good Morning Mahonri and yes I do believe ringleader is about right

If you don't like ringleader here are some other words for you: agitator, boss, brains, captain, chief, chieftain, commander, general, head, head honcho, inciter, instigator, mastermind, orchestrator, president, ruler, skipper, spokesperson, troublemaker

Good to know because I think I submerged it last time I cleaned the bottom. I guess I better take it apart and see if I did any damage.

I too had half of mine hatch and then some others that didn't make it from day 18 to 21. Who knows why it happens? I wish I knew, because it baffles me how they all get the same conditions and then some pop out and are healthy as ever and then the others die in the shell???? I have the Brinsea Eco so I don't get it??? But hey lets have a 100% hatch goal for the Easter Hatch!

Yeah I submerged mine last time and knew some water had gotten in there and I just left it to dry upside down to let the water drain out. This time I decided to take it apart to get the water out and I am glad I did. I cleaned the foam up really well and let all the parts dry over night. I put it back together this morning. I agree, let's have 100% hatch for the Easter Hatch!
