The majority of my girls are broody. But never fear, I have shoved eggs under every single one of them. So 30 in the bator and roughly 60 under all the broodies.......

well i setted a few minutes early my broody hen got up to eat drink and poo so i thought this would be a great time to put the eggs under her i placed 22 eggs under her here is a picture of the eggs i placed

i will take a picture of my hen later today going to giver her time to settle back down before taking the picture of her she was sitting on nothing at all and now she has 22 eggs will be fun to watch her i had a window of only 20 minutes to get the eggs and in the nest before she hopped back on. when she saw me in there she was growling and going crazy but i had finished what i needed to do. as i walked out she hopped back in the nest looked around and moved the eggs some and proceeded to sit back down occasionally looking to make sure they were ok. this is my frist broody hen i hope she does a good job and becomes a nice mom. and i hope all hatch. the other day i had another hen set on some eggs for hours then decided not to but this hen stuck with it. the other eggs the other hen was sitting on started to develop but they cooled down to much when she hopped of for more than 6 hours so i threw them away. can anybody give me any advice on how to take care of a broody hen. do i need to make her get up and eat if she goes with out food and water for more than 6 hrs. do i need to do anything with the eggs? i know i ask alot of questions but this is my first broody and i want to make sure everything goes right so that me and my kids can see a mamma hen with her babies also how long is she suppose to stay off the nest at a time we are expecting 90 degree weather which will put the coop much hotter will this make her stay off longer.

Cool... but that bator looks so empty...

(Compared to my tetris stacked bators)

Agreed! Half my eggs didn't come.

Oh, well. Surely I can replace the batch of missing eggs with a few batches from BYC auctions in April.

I feel some chicken math coming on! (Insert maniacal laughter here.)

Yup! I probably still had room for a few more on top too but didn't want to get THAT close to the heating element... Even if it does have a fan...

Since your broody seems kinda unsure of herself, I would recommend leaving her alone for now at least. Do not force her to eat or drink. Some do, some don't, but she'll be ok. Just keep her a dish of food and water nearby. Don't mess with her at all at least for a few days. You don't need to do anything at all with the eggs. Some people candle around day 7, and some again at day 18. This is pretty much just if you want to know for yourself though, you don't NEED to.

OK so I was a few minutes late.

Now keep in mind all of these are not for the easter hatchalong. Quite a few will hatch before. I have 5 duck already set for this, 5 or 6 goose under broody mommy goose, I value my arms to much to check at the moment. I just set 24 jersey giant will set 12 mixed and am setting more cortunix, hopefully on tuesday.

Just because we need baby pics here is jess, my newly hatched pomeranian gosling in with my $47 serama chick. The serama wouldn't shut up and I don't have anyone else safe for it yet. How long do goslings take to become active? This is my first one.
