Mahonri's 2nd Annual BYC EASTER HATCH. Post pics of your chicks!

Ok... I'm all set... Guess I will be entering a bunch of contests here.. lol... First, this is what I am setting...

8 Lavender Orpingtons
34 EE's
38 my own mix
33 from a friend's mix

113 Eggs total!!!! In a Hova Bator.... I've got to be INSANE!!!!

The 33 from a friend, I'm not sure how well they will do.. Last dozen he gave me were old eggs.. Lots of broken and large air cells.. I only had 4 make it to lockdown and 3 hatched.. This time he gave me 3 dozen and 1 was most definitely taken from a broody and had started rotting/seeping!! YUK!!! Two others were questionable so I took those out too... 33 were set so I guess we will see!

I went ahead and filled in the form so that would be contest #1....

Contest #2, Best hatch Rate.. Well, I guess since I set MANY more than 20, I'm in that one.. LOL

Contest #3, Cutest new chick pic... Will be in that one but it will have to wait of course..

Contest #4, Consolation Prize... I HOPE to not be in this one... LOL

Contest #5, Tetris... Here's mine!

Ok, I set my 2 dozen jersey giant eggs. Put a lone polish in the hatcher, fixed a mixup in the hatcher. Duck eggs that werent supposed to go in until next week and picked up another dozen mixed eggs from the post office that I have to set tonight.

Due to the hatcher mixup duh me. I have a itty bitty problem that needs tetris consultant. Is it possible to stack on a lg turner without ruining it? It isn't in a lg its in my homemade bator and there is a lot of room above the turner. I would put a shelf in there but that would take lots of rearranging and thought because I have a homemade turner on either side of the autoturner and would need to have something to hold said shelf up on the other side and there is stuff in the way.

Will take phone pic of setup shortly. I already have eggs on top of autoturner but don't want to break it.

Just kiddding. I bought these on auction a awhile back and just delayed shipping for the Easter hatch. My bad now i guess. They are supposed to be a really dark green and that caught my interest.

My Olive Egger lays such a dark egg, it nearly looks black sometimes! I have her penned with a Lavender Ameraucana now, to get more of the blue egg gene back in.

From gorgeous Maran hens as well!!! Her roo is spectacular as well. They are Canadian eggs and VERY large; from someone I met on the Poultry Swap Ontario board. (I picked them up at a major mall parking lot yesterday. Felt like I was doing a drug deal - meeting up with someone I don't know and handing them cash!!! Goes by "hobbychicken" on the Canadian board.)

Well, they are beautiful! Hope every one of them hatches for you.

Thank you! Me too. (And, if it isn't asking too much - LOTS of females ...... )

Looks to me like the Marans breeders need to start adding a little OE breeding to their birds!
