Oh AMEN to that!!!! I do miss being able to reminisce at times but I also know that "stuff"is not as important as family and friends (even the furry or feathery kind)... I've also lost stuff to fire but luckily it was contained to my son's bedroom (he set it at 5 years old) so we only lost his stuff.. He remembers it but the most important things he had were his "night night bear" that survived and a giant fire truck that was replaced.. he still has both of them.. He's now 12.. The fire happened right about the same time we lost everything else.. Go figure...

We had no power for a few days and my son and I stayed in a motel room that night while my husband stayed at the house with the dogs/cats to assess the damage the next morning... The landlord refused to claim it under his insurance unless we paid him $5000.00 (that the insurance company would charge him).. Instead we had my mother in law help us out.. It took me 2 months of cleaning, sanding and painting as well as my husband sleeping on the couch so our son could sleep with me in the bed before it was all done... To this day, if he starts showing ANY interest in fire/lighters, I pull the pictures out... Fortunately, he fell in love with ELO (Electric Light Orchestra) during that 2 months because that's pretty much all I listened to the entire time I was fixing his room! ROFL!!!

Here is my picture for the funniest chicken picture--

We can dub it, "The Unfortunate Broody" or perhaps "What do you mean, 'You Were Adopted'?"

...whichever floats your boat.

Ahhhh, I miss those '80's mohawks. Remember seeing a gorgeous rainbow mohawk once and would love to have snapped a picture of it. Young kids these days have no idea! snicker

and, a heads up. There is a webpage that is putting old yearbooks on the web. I saw it last month and noticed they had began with the 40's and 50's, so I assume with time, the '80's will be up. I can't remember the webpage address, the advertisement that took me to it was most likely on facebook.

Glad the important things were safe!

I am not sure how to change my original post on the spreadsheet. I found 2 more eggs today so in total I have set:

21 TBYS eggs (Terri's barn yard specials)
12 refrigerated eggs just to see what happens
4 BCM/Standard Cochin to check for fertility
I will add as many button eggs as I get by the 7th. Havent had any luck with them for 2 hatches but maybe the 3rd is the charm?

I can't even imagine losing so much all at once. I imagine it is life changing. Growing up, we had a break-in, a basement flood, and one time our stuff was in storage during a move and the landowner's cats peed on everything. So, we don't have baby stuff or family heirlooms anymore, but we do have pictures and my mother has become a scrapbooking fanatic. (Not that I can judge - here I am on a chicken forum!)

Speaking of chickens, my chickies-to-be aren't doing very much. The hummmm from the dining room continues.... This is going to be a long three weeks!

Yesterday was a long drive but well worth it. We spent nearly 12 hours in the car before it was all over with, logged almost 400 miles, but we got to get lots of coop ideas from touring Sterling Meadows Hatchery (Thanks again Tori) and we got some Turkey 101 (Alaska style

). We played with baby bunnies that are oh-sooo soft and adorable and finally, packed up 25 babies chicks, 9 roosters, a hen from Guam, a gorgeous splash silkie and 1 Bob White Quail for the trip home. We delivered all but 18 of the chicks, who are now playing happily in the brooder downstairs.

A good day was had by all.

Now about my hatch. I candled and found one blood ring in the turkey eggs

So 19 are still in the bator. Most are hard to see through yet, need to let them age a little more and then I might need a stronger flashlight too.

My Icelandics are not for the Easter hatch but are coming along nicely. I think the auto turner helps the ones with detached air cells to be able to develop, no sudden movements and all that. I'm a third of the way there with these guys and can't wait to see what pops out of this hatch.

Oh, don't feel bad... I have 6 lav orp eggs that are due to hatch tomorrow... I'm worrying myself sick because they were fine on day 16 but now on day 20 there is no wiggling, peeping, pipping, NOTHING!!!! UGH!!! Everything is perfect.. Temp is 100 (with slight fluctuation but nothing drastic) and humidity is 65% (tested the hygrometer right before I put them in lockdown)... Last hatch I did 2 weeks ago, they started pipping on day 19... Now... NOTHING!!!!!!
