Mahonri's 2nd Annual BYC EASTER HATCH. Post pics of your chicks!

I am going to be SOOOOOOO distracted at work today. A second poult had completely zipped right before I had to leave for work. The other pips were all bigger too. I am thinking we will come home to at least five poults in the bator. If they are all dry and fluffy by the time I get home, I am going to pull those guys out to make more room for the chicks. I just didn't want a lone poult in the brooder all day while we were gone. I had to jiggle the bator a little this morning to "encourage" the first poult to get off the zipped egg. I know he is lonely but it isn't going to help to sit on top of your brother's egg while he is trying to hatch.

Your done allready. Come one now, you have couple more days until the finish line. don't give up yet. I do have 3 pips this morning. So may be the 113 degree spike did not kill them all.

Well, my eggs were busy last night.. I now have a total of 7 chicks drying out. 23 eggs left and can see a couple of pips. So wierd.. Last hatch 90% of the chicks all hatched right on schedule and within a 24 hour period. This time they're all messed up.. Hope they keep hatching!!

Mahonri- the two aforementioned chicks are out...the one is a real head scratcher. The chick is black, with black-black legs. Almost like a silkie would have.

When I pulled them out, I found another chick had hatched: it was upside-down in the shell, and while it had kicked off all the shell, it was stuck in the full membrane. Thankfully the membrane hadn't dried, so I pinched the end of a membrane and shook it out like rocks in a sock.

DH just came home. Apparently he had to remove a rattle snake from the kids' daycare. Go DH! Kinda scary for the kiddos though.

Forgot to mention.. woke up ths morning to find everything outside is white.. It snowed again!!! At least the sun is out so hopefully it will melt it off quickly and warm up for the weekend..

I already put their eggs in the refrigerator. I could experiment with refrigerated eggs though! hahahaha

I di that few weeks ago. Pullet eggs no less. They had been in the frig 4 days and just were to cute not to incubate. So in they went Both developled and hatched. Couple of wellies. about 3/4 the size of hen chickns, but doing fine.

Unfortunately, I DO NOT qualify.

Per the rules someone had to take a picture with the chick and the time and I think the only person to do that is the one with the goose.

ETA: and the time

WELL, what can I do? I mean, I have these Icelandic eggs sitting here, and really they are just sitting here aging. My frig is FULL of eggs (I am talking 20 dozen at least), so I do not need any more to eat. Silkie eggs sitting here, too....... hmmmm.....

No doubt I HAVE to set the 16 New Hampshire eggs I have, and the 24 Barred Rock eggs, too. BUT, I still have all those other open slots. It just looks so empty.

thinking I could try the dang Orps again. I have 43 of those. They have been non fertile for 6 months, so should I even try????

It's not like you would miss the eggs. Go ahead...
