It is my first hatch, and it is breaking my heart to leave that little guy in there alone. I feel so bad that, every time he chirps, I go over and talk to him.
Five more pips, and I am not going to get anything done today...

This may just be me, but if that little baby has zipped fairly well, it's done absorbing the yolk and its blood, and I'd pop off the top to let it relax a bit. It will at least assure it won't suffocate itself. Don't ever take a chick out of the half-shell, though. Chick on the half-shell has to stay that way until the chick can extricate itself, unless glued.

I'd get the panter out, too- that's not really a good thing. Particularly since panting won't help it cool itself because evaporation is soooo poor in high humidity.

In a Genesis, you'll return to good heat and humidity quickly, so it ought not be an issue.

I've been wondering the same thing. In the Genesis, my humidity is currently 77%. My first little guy is not dry yet and he's motivating the others, but if I wanted to take out a few tonight and move them to the brooder so they don't keep kicking the others, would that be safe? Last time I stupidly opened it and blew into it, it dropped from 81% to 64% and came back up within a few minutes.

Is it safe if there are pippers? A damp chick?
Should I spray water?
Or should I just leave them all alone?

Also, the little guy knocked two other eggs. They rolled around a bit. Will they be okay?

Others might disagree with me.... but I leave them! I have lost more chicks to opening the bator during hatch by causing them to get "stuck" then I ever have lost just leaving them be. My hatches tend to be long and drawn out, and I have left chicks in there for 48 full hours, many times.

Hey don't worry. They will do what they want to, when they want to and there is not much we can do about it.

After you run 8 or 10 hatches a year, its like, OK I have pips, then OK I have chicks, Then its like, WHERE DID ALL THESE CHICKS COME FROM, Oh ya I put all those eggs in there.

I have also learned put the eggs in make sure the water level is good and not worry about it, what happens, happens.

Good luck with your hatch.

Just in case you missed my note, Laree your little plush chick went out in the mail yesterday. I think you should have it by Monday. I soooo want to go home and check on the eggs. Only six more hours and I can leave!

One little duckling on Wednesday evening (totally early) two little chickies yesterday morning and two more pipped this morning. Computer got a virus; couldn't get on the web for a while. Not sure how long it's going to hold up - can't get a new one till next month. Oh well, at least I have chickies
