Mahonri's 2nd Annual BYC EASTER HATCH. Post pics of your chicks!

Oh, I am still so sad. I just hope a few of my Silkies hatch, and I get at least 2 pullets. I think that i only have 5 or 6 eggs in there, though.

On a bright note.... I get all of the wood I need for my new 12 x 10 coop for $100, except for the framing. TSC has egg turners on sale so I should be able to get a few, thank the lord. I have a total of 5 brooders now.

Ok so far 10 poults (already sold most of them)
38 Turkens, Silkies, BLRW, GLW
And about 10 more pipped or hatching.
Pretty good for a 26 hour power outtage.

And I have restocked

60+ Guinea eggs, 30+ Turkey eggs and 15 Spitz.

Well, we are wrapping up the nicest day we have had so far in 2011!! It is 50 degrees, which after the 2 inches of snow we woke up to yesterday feels like Summer!! We were able to get some yard cleanup done. If we have a week of weather like this, I might even be able to get the garden tilled.... Can't put tomatoes out or anything that might freeze till June and even then it's a scramble to cover them at least a few nights... Sure would like some of Mahonri's fresh garden produce right about now!! I have to say though that I would rather wait for my tomatoes till August than have my corn popping in the backyard like he will have in July when it's a 120 in Phoenix...

I hope they all hatch for you!! (That way Crystal Creek, Wolftracks, LaMike and Hurley can just send me their eggs and I can try hatching fertile eggs for a change..

) Thanks Mahonri for spearheading this grand hatchalong!! It's been fun!!

HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE!!!!

I've had a long and somewhat stressful day, but I am very happy and satisfied. Of the 15 that made it into lockdown, 11 have hatched and are now in the brooder. The other four eggs have not yet pipped, but I'm giving them more time. I ended up with some stuck chicks, but thanks to everyone's help and most especially dsqard who led me through the process, everyone ended up healthy and fluffy!

Now it's my first time, so you knew you were going to have to sit through this...

I am so happy and relieved to have 11 happy chicks in the brooder.

So, out of 21 original eggs: 1 clear, 5 early quitters, 11 chicks, and 4 unknowns.

Yes, I would say so!! My luck wouldn't have been anywhere near that good.
I'm right there with you, we loaded a 2nd bator Thursday night with 60 more silkie eggs.

People would be going crazy in my neck of the woods for some of those babies.

I have everybody asking for guineas.
