So, I REALLY hope the 106 temp spike in my stupid styro-bator (LG) didn't cook all my eggs. Hoping since its a still air its not so bad... hoping... praying...
That LG temp setting is so hairline sensitive. I hate it. At least with brinsea you can TURN the knob. With LG if you look at the thing funny it cooks you some breakfast.
My brinsea's are reserved for waterfowl right now because those eggs are more valuable but I hate to lose those 40-something chicken eggs. sigh...

Anyway, speaking of all these prizes and such. How do I go about claiming the prize for best hatch rate?
And in case anyone was wondering how I got such a great hatch rate. Its because I didn't use any styrofoam.
I was using a Brinsea and a Broody. Can't really mess up with that mix. Brinseas are typically idiot proof. lol

MMMom - I don't yet know if I have good news for you or not, but my bator spiked to over 110. It was on day 3 of incubation. I opened the bator real quick and touching the eggs, they felt every degree of 110. I figured I would just go ahead and throw them out right? The thought of it made me cry so I just walked away. I finally got around to cleaning out the incubator about 5 days later. I decided this time I would scramble the eggs because - wierdo that I am - I wanted to see how far they had developed in only three days. I cracked the first egg into the frypan...and what I saw was a beating heart.
Obviously I quick-stepped it back to the incubator, put all the eggs right back in and I have been waiting for 6 days now to see if they keep developing. Probably not...but on the off chance that something survives I want to at least give them a chance.

am hoping yours will be fine after your heat spike also.

Terrie has been notified of all of the winners of the six month GFMs.

BYC is going through some major stuff right now... the tudy coop contest and then of course all of the awards that will be handed out this weekend is keeping Nifty, Terri and the mods VERY BUSY... have patience!

BTW... I covet your win of that particular contest and I hope to win it with my own eggs on January 1, 2012! All of us will tell you it's not as easy as it looks.

Mahonri - btw - Of my little hatchlings, I have one absolute, for-sure, no-doubts about it, roo - a BCM. His name is...wait for it...Mahonri Creston. I started calling him "His Royal Rooliness Mahonri" and my son insisted "si pero el tiene tanta cresta que debe tener el apellido de Creston" and so Mahonri Creston he is.

Ok, thanks. I wasn't sure if I had to "do" anything.
I was surprised to win that one but I have had 3 hatches so far this year with an even higher percentage, in the brinsea incubators. In styrofoam I consider it a success to get more than half.
I figured since it was a contest I should use the good bator

and then the broody was a pleasant unexpected factor.
Well, I hope you win, too!

Thanks everyone! The blue coating is a great idea. That's what I'll do. I could separate him if it continues, but I'd rather be able to keep him with everyone else just for company/socialization.

Today i received the eggs from hurley. they arrived well packed no cracks. i have my incubator up and going trying to get it stable so that when my other eggs arrive i can place them in. I received 5 Marans and 3 EE X maran these little chicks that hatch will have a wonderful home and be truly loved.

Gee this thread has slowed down enough to catch up with.

I have eggs in lockdown and I think a BCM is trying to pip. I held a maglight over the windows and I could actually see the spot where it's trying to pip the shell and a little rocking. These aren't due till tomorrow and thr BCMs are usually slower, so excited to see what happens this hatch,

Guess what?

I went to Harbor Freight last night and they had a cheapy cordless drill for 19 bucks. Wonder how long this one will hold out. Might actually make something without split wood this time.

I had someone who was going to pick up the mixed BCM chicks today, but I swear they all look like BCMs still and the polish wore off of two of them. Now I have to hold on to them till they start feathering out more. Little suckers are supposed to be helping pay for feed, but I can't sell her something if I'm not sure what it is yet, so now I have to feed them instead.
