Mahonri's 2nd Annual BYC EASTER HATCH. Post pics of your chicks!

Just sending you a hug Steve - sounds like you are on the road to recovery but it still sounds like a hard time.

Six of seven project eggs and seven of seven Ameraucana eggs went to lockdown. This is the first time that eggs from my Cornish developed for me; I'm stoked. They're not due to hatch till Sunday, but I'm already starting to stare at them.

I have 11 more project eggs, and 17 more Ameraucana eggs, still in the bator; scheduled for two different lockdowns next week. Some of these were porous, or a little older than a week; but nothing ventured, nothing gained..................................... so they're in the bator. I did have eggs laid on the day of the loss; but I left them out in the heat for a few days while fighting buffalo gnats and cleaning up the mess. I considered saving them for a set today, but decided not to risk setting possibly spoiled eggs in with those already developing. I did crack one, and it smelled OK, but the yolk was very watery looking.

What a beautiful bird!

ETA: Some of mine from Tuesday. Thank goodness they are moving outside today!!! I wanted them out last week, but DH was dragging his feet. No, it was not helping me finish the run that was the issue. I can tell that he is really enjoying having his buddies in the bathroom!

This isn't everybody, but it looks like 6 cockerels and 5 pullets.

Today is day 21 of my next hatch! 6 hatched yesterday (5 Silver Ameraucana and 1 Wheaten) and none overnight, so I am wondering if the other 3 will make it. We'll see.

Thanks, Steve. Well, I candled them last night and it looks like they were late quitters, maybe somewhere around Day 15. I only candled on Day 14 and not again before lockdown; next time I'll know better. 6 chicks from 16 eggs - whew. Not the best odds, but they did spend 5 days in 2-day Priority mail, so Lord only knows what happened to them.

Anyway, I'm very happy with my six little chickies -

And my Easter kids are out of the house! They were a little unsure about going down that ramp, but loved their run once they did!

I love those Easter chicks; very colorful.
Hatching shipped eggs is always a crap shoot. I'm glad you have 6 Ameraucanas to show for it.

Me too. Thanks! I've really enjoyed them. I can already tell I'll be spending many hours this summer just sitting out by the run watching them. I completely agree about the Ameraucana eggs. I'm glad to have six chicks! I wish you the best as you rebuild your flock.
