Mahonri's 2nd Annual BYC EASTER HATCH. Post pics of your chicks!

Ummmmmmmm, I have exceeded the capacity of my autoturner in my homemade bator. I have 42 in the autoturner and another 18 that are going in today to be hand turned. Oh yeah and I recieved my refund check and cant seem to stay off the auction sites. I am doing good though I haven't seen what I want and am practicing impulse control. Since I can't get rid of the ones outside that are almost ready to lay and the livestock auction doesn't start back up until july. Note to self, unable to sell mutts so do not set mutt eggs. Although if I don't find the eggs I want for the easter hatch and my cochins don't start laying I will be setting at least 20 of my mutt eggs then.

I don't have to confess, just update.
Couldn't see through the Marans eggs, so all 56 are in lockdown.
Not tons going on, but I have 5 CM out, 2 zipping, 5 pipping and there were 2 that pipped and tried to zip, but I pulled them out since they stopped yesterday. Both looked mummified! Out of the 5 pipped now, 2 are from the dozen I won at the Stockton show.

OK............confession

I have another hatch due the 28th, one the 5th and since my girls just started laying I have more waiting to be set.

And I got my first EE egg about 15 minutes ago. Wasn't sure what she was. She was from extras added to an order. She does the softest, daintiest egg song I've ever barely heard. LOL

So this means I have 6 girls at least that are either back to laying or just starting out. Three for sure are pullets.

Those of you who have added yourselves to the map, thank you. Those of you that haven't... please do so. See post 897 for instructions.

Here's what we've got so far:

In good news:
1. Augusta, Maine TSC is having their chick days when I will be in Phoenix. Thank goodness for small miracles since they're having the bantam bin and the assorted ducks bin this year.

2. My boss let me take COMP time after putting up with my drooling and surly behavior for an hour and a half. I slept until 1 and am alive again!

3. I still have one egg in my bator from my (unlucky) attempt at hatching TJ eggs. I'm kinda crossing my fingers that it doesn't hatch. Hopefully between now and the start of this hatch I can keep eggs out of my bator.

I everyone i have a question i just got a digital thermomiter and it is reading 97.2 but the thermomiter that is laying on top of the eggs read 100 which one chould i go buy the humidity is at 34

Some of us are known to have 2 or 3 or 4 thermometers of different kinds in the incubator. You have to go with an average sometimes. I have some of the cheap glass aquarium thermometers with little suction cups on them and a regular digital one and a more expensive spot check thermometer too. I have learned to relax more on my temps and usually just use 1 thermometer now. Temps can also vary throughout the incubator too, like the sides and the bottom may read different than the top of the eggs. If you really question your temps., you can always try a third thermometer and take an average.

I also have a confession. I have my bator running right now on day 4, Lav ameraucanas, and a mix of other cool things. Just practicing for the Easter Hatch that is why I "had" to do it.
