Mahonri's 2nd Annual BYC EASTER HATCH. Post pics of your chicks!

ty for all the good information was confused about the temp and the hummidity some say 70 and up can drown the chicks and i do not want to do that but now that i know that majority increases the humidity to that high then i feel much better just want to make sure that everything goes good this time i can not have my kids not see a chick hatch because of something i did wrong i knw with the first three eggs that i had a high chance of them not hatching because of the incubator i had at the time and this time i want to make sure my kids have a good experience now my question is what about them looking like they are at different stages but all still alive could that be because of the temp and does that mean that the hatch could take several days also where can i find that cheat sheet

Caught up and marking my spot.. .I hope I've added all those new to the hatch..

We are getting a crew.

One of my polish started laying again today. Whoot! Now I am really hoping the rest of the polish and the cochins will follow suit. I also need to get the rest of my breeding runs ready for the warmer weather so I can seperate the rest of my breeds. Not to mention the giant garden I promised myself. Too much to do!!!!

Ok, now that I have that out of my system, I am going to bed and will have to try to catch up tomorrow. Hope everyone is doing well.

I got 3! polish eggs today.... and 1 EE polish X. If I still have them the last week of March, their eggs go in the bator.

I only got one egg today, but it was a pullet egg from a girl I wasn't sure was an EE. Thought so, but no muff or anything. She's very pretty. So my first green egg after 4 Games and 2 Marans and 1 Silkie have laid. I think I have one more EE from the same hatch as the one that laid today that has Columbian???? markings I think????

I'm the highest bidder on the Silkied AMs that alicefelldown has on auction

To bad it will be done before the Easter hatch, but just means they'll be growing out sooner.

I have 11 hatched and still 2 pipped on my Marans hatch. I started a thread to see if someone might have pics of blue splash, but no one has posted yet. Lotsapaints gave me all the CMs, but the dozen I won were mostly unmarked. Two of those have hatched and one more has pipped. Still lots of quiet eggs in the bator. May not be able to sleep tonight although I feel like I could.

I have always ran 40-50% and at lockdown you need to go up to 75%...the avoid the membranes drying out and shrink wrapping the babies.

Good luck with you hatch.

As to incubating that number at once....talk to kathyinmo she incubates like a mad woman sometimes.

Ahhhh, yes, I do incubate that many at a time. I have a pretty high hatch rate. That being said, last week I became careless and lost 12 chicks due to my complacency. I opened the hatcher several times to remove chicks. This caused 12 (YES, TWELVE) chicks to die. They pipped and died. I am still soooooo mad at myself!

I incubate at 35% humidity and on day 18 I up to 60 - 65%. I try not to go above that, as I get sticky chicks. They get so sticky that they can not move around in the shell. I hate it when that happens. However, different people use different humididty %. I believe it has to do with what altitude you live in. Ask around your area and see who uses what % successfully.

Good luck!

I've had decent luck here in Phoenix running 30-35% for the first 18 days and 60-65% for the last three... that's in my 1588. I actually set my brinsea right at 34% for the first 18 days and 63% during lockdown.
