We plan on starting a huge garden this spring. The temps are still below freezing at night here though. I have a ton of research to do. I have never taken on a garden this size, and I have never gardened where we currently live. So I have no idea when to start. Right now we are just working on preparing the ground and fencing it off from the goats and chickens. I have a TON of compost ready to go. I can't wait!

Mahonri - We have about 3' of snow on the ground. I plant on Mother's Day. Many around here worry that is too early! My Sister lives in Fl and by June her tomatoes are sauce in the skin if they are even still out in the garden. It's fun to hear about the things going on in different regions of our country.

Can't wait to hatch!

Tehehe I have another batch of tomatoes ready to plant. Summer is almost over here but I should have another 3 frost free months.

I grew some right through winter one year in pots, just moved them up onto the veranda at night and back out in the sun in the morning

I too bake in summer though so I shouldn't crow too loudly.

They are far more helpful than everyone makes them seem. You just have to go about it the right way.

I have my peas started indoors already. Planted them las week and they are ready to go outside already. I'll be tilling up the garden soon. it's 50'x15' or so and gets full sun in the summer when we cut the apple trees back a bit. I'll be planting Zuccini, Oregon Sugar Pod peas, Blue tomatoes, yellow pear tomatoes, red brandywine tomatoes, bush beans, danvers half long carrots, radishes, turnips, and some herbs in the Spring. The tomatoes are in the green house most of the spring to keep the frost off of the vines.

I ran out of staples for my screen door.

The one for the Quail Pen. It has a solid door now, but I want to put a screen door on to keep the chickens out while I air out the quail.

Mahonri: Hope your foot heals up fast.

After 2 week of below freezing for the highs around here we finally had a heat wave and a beautiful 60 degree weekend.

I had some serious spring fever and cleaned out chicken coops and fixed some fence. I spent as much time outside as I could, I've been "trapped" inside for way too long. Forecast is for 60 degrees or warmer all week. Perfect week for my eggs to be shipped for my pre-Easter hatch.
